MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA -- Veteran Humberto Soto (64-8-0, 35 KO) of Los Mochis, MX met a young upcoming fighter from Covina, CA in the person of John Molina (27-4-0, 22KO) in the fifth fight of the 'Mayhem' Floyd Mayweather vs Marcos Maidana Rematch that saw Soto going home with a unanimous decision victory over Molina.
Soto started aggressively trying to impose his will and Molina was content trying to counter as he measured Soto for the first two rounds. That led to a vicious exchange towards the end of the 2nd round with each one landing wicked shots.
Third round was the same and towards the end as the bell rung, referee Nady separated the fighters with such force that led Soto to go down the canvas head first. No harm no foul.
The exchanges were so vicious in rounds 4 and 5 and towards the end of the 5th Molina?s nose started to bleed.
Round 6 started with a low blow from Molina that cost him a point from referee Nady.
Round 7 Molina landed another low blow and lost another point. Sensing he is now far behind, Molina started throwing wide haymakers that did not land.
Round 8th, Soto continued his attack` and this time it was he who landed a low blow. It was obvious there was no love lost between the two. But he only drew a warning from Referee Jay Nady.
Round 9 was highlighted by exchanges of upper cuts as Molina stayed on the ropes and elected to exchange.
Round 10 Soto landed a low blow and it cost him a point. The fight ended with both fighters looking for a big one that never came. In the end the judges scored the fight for Soto, 96-91, 95-92, and 95-92.
