CARSON, CA -- Shawn Porter (24-1-1, 15 KO) of Cleveland, OH did not do what he was supposed to do and got beat by an Englishman from Sheffield, UK, Kell Brook (33-0-0, 22KO) tonight at the Stuhub Center here. Brook returns to England with Porter's IBF welterweight title in tow.
?I will destroy Kell Brook,? Porter stated prior to the big fight
tonight. But it turned out that he was just all talk. He was so far from even scoring a knockdown because the gritty Brit came to fight and gave as much as he took.
Porter appears to be having a hard time winning rounds and the few he did get he had to pay hard for every one of them. His face was bloodied by the many punches Brook managed to score. Brook on the other hand appears to have none.
Even up to the championship rounds, Brook did not fade. He was throwing from all angles in answer to the advances of Porter.
At the end of 11th as Brook returned to hiscorner, as small contingent of Brits stood up and gave him a standing ovation. That is how good he was doing.
The 12th round was as spirited as it can get. Both fighters sensing the need to win the round came of firing from all cylinders. Porter wanted to show that he must have this fight but Brook tiedhim up whenever he gets close.
In the end, the fighters left it to the judges to decide.
The judges scores for the fight that ended with a majority decision were 114-114, 117-111 and 116-112, all for the new IBF Welterweight champion, Kell Brook!
