In the 10th fight for the day at StubHub, two excellent Latino fighters met head on Lightweight title for the WBC, Omar Figueroa of Westlaco, Texas and David Estrada of Mexico City. Figueroa is backed up by Juan Manuel Marquez who proudly stood in the ring with his fighter giving him last minutes pointers.
It appears whatever Marquez told Figueroa worked because when it got to round 9 as a huge exchange in the ring center was happening, Figueroa landed a right that dropped Estrada in what appeared to be a flash knock down. Estrada beat the count of referee Raul Caiz Sr who allowed Estrada to continue. However when the fight continued Figueroa started throwing plenty of haymakers that landed clean without replies. Caiz then stepped in and stopped the fight to prevent Estrada from getting hurt further. Time was 1:11. With the win Figueroa improved to 24-0-1 (18KO). Estrada dropped to 32-3.1, 24KO.
