Benezer Alolod of the Brusmick Boxing Stable defended his Philippine Light-Flyweight title in style defeating Jomar Fajardo via a 5th round TKO. The fight was the main event in yesterday?s ?Bakbakan sa Brusmick? (Slugfest in Brusmick) in Santa Rosa City presented by Engr. Ariel Araja?s Brusmick?s International Promotions.
The fight was Alolod?s first defense of the title he wrested from erstwhile champion Jerson Mancio of the ALA Boxing Stable at the Philippine International Boxing Convention last May 14.
Right from the opening bell, Alolod, a native of Polomolok, South Cotabato, immediately dictated the action with short accurate punches to the head and body while blocking Fajardo?s early haymakers. A left-right combination in the 2nd round downed Fajardo for the first time. Another combination by Alolod put Fajardo to the canvas the second time and the latter was in a survival mode the rest of the round in danger of being counted out. Surprisingly, Fajardo regained some composure in the 3rd round and managed to land some good shots of his own that might have given him the round. A left uppercut by Alolod in the 4th round momentarily stunned Fajardo. This was followed by another Alolod flurry sending Fajardo all over the ring for cover. The end came in the 5th round when another left semi-hook hurt Fajardo prompting Referee Ferdinand Estrella to stop the fight at 1:54 of the round.
In the supporting main event, Jonel Alibio who had a brief hold of the OPBF featherweight title finally put his game together to score a quick victory over Desson Cag-ong in their 10-round scheduled super-featherweight bout. Cag-ong allowed Alibio to score with vicious shots to the head that finally dropped him heavily to the canvas. Cag-ong did manage to beat the count but did not appear to be fully conscious as he just stood there motionlessly after rising to his feet prompting Referee Virgilio Garcia to put a halt to the bout at 2:58 of the first round.
In another bout scheduled as an 8-rounder held at the straw-weight class, Lester Abutan of the Olivetti Boxing Stable was pummelling Dexter Dimaculangan with vicious punches to the head and body when Referee Carlo Baluyut stepped in to stop the bout at 1:43 of the 4th round for an Abutan TKO win. Dimaculangan looked prepared physically in this fight as he looked more conditioned and more sharp than in his earlier fights even connecting some clean shots on Abutan in the early going as he initially withstood the latter?s assault.
Summarizing the results of the other bouts:
Justo Bornilla defeated Ronald Postrano via a UD (79-71 in all three judges? scorecards) in their 8-round lightweight bout;
Menard Abila came out the winner over Fidel Cuyno via a split decision (57-56 for Abila on two judges? scorecards and 57-56 for Cuyno on the third) in their 6-round bantamweight bout;
Marlon Arcilla fought in gutsy style to defeat Crisanto Contemprato via a majority decision (58-56, 58-56, and 57-57) in their 6-round bantamweight bout;
Jesame Dela Cerna utilized his reach advantage to defeat Jay-Ar Diama via a UD (60-54, 59-55, and 58-56) in their 6-round flyweight bout; and
Benjie Baron scored a first round knockdown over Alberto Pentecostes en route to winning via a UD (40-35, 40-35, and 39-36) in their 4-round super-bantamweight bout.
