
ALA-COBRA: NIGHT OF TKO'S IN TAGBILARAN

TAGBILARAN CITY,BOHOL- Jimmy ?Popeye? Paypa of Lanao del Sur continued to trade blows with Gadwin Tubigon of Dipolog City amidst a light rain much to the delight of the fans who witnessed the ALA-COBRA 'Tunay na Lakas" card at the Island City Mall.Saturday night.
Paypa decked Tubigon in the opening round but Tubigon gamely fought on and matched him punch for punch.In the fourth, blood started to pour from Tubigon's nose but he still managed to inflict a knockdown on Paypa.
But blood continued to stream from Tubigon's nose in the fifth round which eventually brought about the fight stoppage.and awarding the TKO win to Paypa. Time - 55 sec.The referee for the main event was Ben Necesario.
In the co-main feature, Fernando ?Batang Bato? Ocon of Cebu stunned Juren ?Turbo? Labordo of Bacolod City with a wicked liver shot in the third round. Labordo was down face first on the canvas in obvious pain and Referee Eutemio Cagampang reached the ten count at the 2:05 mark.
Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo won by TKO in the 6th and final round in front of his hometown fans against Tata Fontanilla. Magsayo had too much of skill and power and rained a vast array of hooks and uppercuts to the body and head of Fontanilla.
In the third, a hard right caught Magsayo as he was trying to finish Fontanilla which briefly stopped his momentum, sending him on the back foot. But in the subsequent rounds,Magsayo continued to inflict punishment.
In the sixth, Referee Ben Necesario stopped the fight when Fontanilla was being pummeled on the ropes. His cornerman and Fontanilla himself protested the stoppage but it was the right decision as he was taking too many head shots and had no more chance of winning at that point. Time 2:36.
For the other undercard results- Peter Apolinar beat Jamjam Ungon by TKO in the first round,Time 2:59, Vic Casido won by unanimous decision against Albert Muring after 4 rounds. Scores were 40-36 by Judges Arnie Najera, Ben Necesario and Eutemio Cagampang.
James Paul Talaman won by first round TKO against Jovane Abejero. Time 1:18. and Ryan Canillas beat Rafael Sueno by second round TKO. Time 0:48.The free to the public event was opened by amateur contests. The pro bouts were supervised by Glenn Agena and Rolando Mendoza of GAB ? Cebu. This boxing promotion is part of the continuing partnership of ALA Promotions and Cobra Energy Drink.
