Former IBF minimumweight champ Florante Condes is not looking past his Japanese opponent Ryoichi Taguchi, but he knows a win will take him a step closer to another world title shot. Condes (27W-8L-1D,23KO?s) and Taguchi (19W-2L-1D,8KO?s) both weighed 106 lbs during the official weigh-in held Friday for their non-title contest in Tokyo.

Promoter and boxing manager Aljoe Jaro informed philboxing of the weigh-in results. He also stated that the current IBF world champion in the 105lb division, Katsunari Takayama, will be at ringside watching the Condes-Taguchi battle this Saturday.

The 34 year old Condes has set his sights on Takayama or the WBO champion Francisco Rodriguez of Mexico.

Condes had a brief reign was world champion in 2007 after he dethroned Indonesian Muhamad Rachman by split decision in Jakarta. He lost in his first defense to Raul Garcia of Mexico also by split decision. Two years ago, Condes lost in his bid to win an IBO title in South Africa by unanimous decision against Hekkie Budler. He has scored two straight TKO wins since returning to the gym of Aljoe Jaro.
