Canoga Park, CA-Yesterday, I asked the staff to re-schedule my patients so I can be at the Wildcard Gym today to take photos of Jorge Solis, the April 14th Mexican foe of Manny Pacquiao.
Modesty aside, in my dental practice, re-scheduling patients is not an easy task as we book patients two to three weeks in advance. But, thanks to my wonderful staff and loyal patients who understand my passion for boxing, my schedule was re-arranged and 3 hours were opened for me. That is plenty of time for me to drive to the Wildcard in Hollywood, take a few photos of Solis and drive back to my office to take care of the rest of the patients for the day. And, at the end of the day post the pictures on PhilBoxing.com
But just like Wednesday, taking pictures of Solis was not meant to be.
Solis was supposed to be at the Wildcard Gym today (Friday March 22) at about noon. Bob Arum himself announced that in no uncertain terms last Wednesday at the Palm Restaurant in West Hollywood. Solis according to Arum was still in Mexico last Wednesday applying for a visa. But, he said things will be okay and Solis will be at the Wildcard today for the press corps to interview and for photo ops.
Today, at a little past 11:00 am, I decided to call Top Rank to make sure that I will not be wasting my time driving to Hollywood. I first called Bill Capland who said he was not sure if Solis will be at the Wildcard Gym. “Call there first, before you go to make sure that Solis is indeed there,” he said.
I was not satisfied with that answer, so I called Ricardo Jimenez, who I am sure will know more about Solis since he is the Top Rank front man for Solis. “No, he won’t be at the Wildcard today. In all probability, it will be next Tuesday or Wednesday. We will make an announcement when he will be coming to meet the press,” Jimenez said.
I did not bother to ask why. I figured the absence of Solis is still for the same darn reason: Visa problems.
Oh well, when will they ever learn?
