Las Vegas -- Diosdado Gabi, (29-3-1, 21 KO) the tiny but mighty dynamite from Davao City did very well last night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. He won via a 2nd round knock-out.
Gabi hardly broke a sweat in his fight against the late substitute fighter from Columbia, Antonio Cochero (17-5-1, 13KO).
Earlier yesterday, before his fight, this writer and many of the Pe?alosa-Gabi supporters were gathered at the room at Mandalay Bay Resort provided to the boxers. We were reliving the previous fights of Pe?alosa and Gabi who both won by knockouts, Pe?alosa at El Paso, Texas and Gabi at the Orleans Hotel here in Las Vegas and at the Desert Diamond Casino in Arizona. We were hoping that perhaps, the duo can repeat their achievements
But as fate had it, only Gabi came through as expected. Pe?alosa lost via a heart breaking UD from Daniel Ponce de Leon, albeit, from our point of view, with a little help from the judges.
Gabi’s victory has moved him closer to his dream for another title fight. With his management problems now behind him and with the Golden Boy Promotions handling his fights, that may happen sooner that we all think.
With what he demonstrated in his last three fights tonight included, he surely deserves another chance.
