CEBU CITY, Philippines - Filipino former IBF Jr. Flyweight World Champion Johnriel Casimero (20-2, 12 KO's) did not waste a single second to dish out sheer accurate power over Colombian Mauricio Fuentes (16-3, 10 KO's) to repeatedly deck him down, maul him and finally knock him out in the very first round of their uneven clash last night (Saturday May 3) at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino here in Cebu, Philippines. Official Time: 2:59 of round 1.

At the sound of the first bell, the 24 year-old Casimero - who Friday afternoon lost his IBF world crown at the scales - came out swinging hard against a seemingly cold and slow 5' 3" world-ranked Colombian who took the heavy artillery that sent him down to the canvas for the first time in less than 2 minutes into the battle.

The brave Colombian stood up, but with legs visibly gone and a groggy head, there was little he could do against a superbly fast and aggressive Casimero on top of his game who went on to the attack again viciously downing Fuentes for a second time.

Once again, a hurt Fuentes managed to beat the count of American third man Gerard White, but it was matter of seconds when the Pride of Ormoc blew him apart with a powerful combination followed by a right blow that Fuentes did not see coming... and it was all over.

The Colombian ended his world title challenge motionless in dreamland while the referee waved all actions off; Casimero achieving his 20th professional victory and 12th knock out win against only two defeats.

"It was my straight right," said Casimero afterward to this reporter. "I felt fast and strong tonight. I lost my title in the scales. But now i am a flyweight fighter and I want to be a world champion again."

Sammy Gello-Ani, Casimero's manager and promoter was satisfied with the victory and confirmed that the former 108-pounder IBF ruler, will campaign in the Flyweight (112 lbs) division.

"Yes, we lost the 108-pound title in the scales. It was going to happen sooner or later as Casimero is growing bigger, stronger boxer. I will ask the boxing organizations to relocate Casimero in the 112 lbs division and we'll campaign there.

"We know that the flyweight is a very competitive division with really good fighters as Nicaraguan Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (39-0, 33 KO's), the Argentinian Juan Carlos Reveco (33-1, 18 KO's), Mexican Juan Francisco "Gallo" Estrada (26-2, 19 KO's) and Japanese Akira Yaegashi (20-3, 10 KO's). We want to see Johnriel Casimero against the best flyweights."

The Casimero vs Fuentes fight at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu was a production of Sammy Gello-Ani of SGG Sports Promotions in association with Omega Pain Killer. A reply will be aired on AKSYON TV Channel 5.
