Chalermpon wins.
After 12-rounds of close-quarter blow-by-blow action, Thai veteran fighter Chalermpon Singwancha outpointed tough Filipino Dan "The Iron Man" Nazareno (19-11, 15 KO's) of Pampanga to capture the vacant Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) Welterweight Black and Golden belt today Wednesday (April 9) in the Central Province of Ang Thong (อ่างทอง), Kingdom of Thailand.
The engaging style of the combatants made some of the rounds to be hard to score, except the last three in which the Filipino caught the shorter Chalermpon with overheads and hooks that staggered the now new ABF Welterweight champion.
There were no knockdowns nor cuts, only clean and hard blows dished out by the two warriors squaring off in the middle of the ring a clash in which a draw would have sound more fair.
After the fight, Brico Santig, the manager of Nazareno commented:
"The Thai (Chalermpon) is smart, a veteran former muay thai fighter. It was a tough 12-rounder with Nazareno. But after the 9th round the Thai was running out of gas. A draw would have been fair. For sure in the last three rounds Nazareno was stronger. I guess the Thai piled up points early on in the fight. But a more fair judgement.... for me would have been a draw. Pero the reality is that Chalerpom won. We are in his hometown."
The co-main event, veteran former WBC Super Featherweight World Champion Sirimongkol Singmanasak (77-2, 49 KO's) mauled and sent down two times brave French late sub Barrack, then punished the European with a savaged right hook against the ropes to leave the French man motionless flat on his back on the canvas for a devastating effective knockout win in round 2.
The televised action card at Ang Thong, Kingdom of Thailand was a production of veteran Thai promoter Naris Singwancha in association with Filipino Brico Santig of Benguet's Highland Boxing Gym.
The fights were aired LIVE on open TV through the Kingdom on Thailand's MCOT Channel 9.
