TIDBITS AND PHOTOS FROM PACQUIAO MEDIA DAY

Hollywood, CA -- Top Rank Promotions held the Pacquiao Media Day early this afternoon at the Wildcard Gym.
Of course when Pacquiao is around and access to him is provided, many would not miss the chance to be there. It?s an event, you know.
But from this writer?s point of view, things have changed. Well, sort of.
Rob Peters, the usual security guard in these kind of events, is surprisingly absent. But, I really did not dig in deeper to find out why. He is just absent. Period.
In his place was Miguel Salazar, the old stand by at the gym who was not a player for quite a while but now is back in full force. He took care of parking assignments and who gets to go in the gym first.
Why, he even controlled the dressing room door that even Top Rank photographer Chris Farina was not allowed access the way he used too.
Pacquiao for his part came in the usual good mood that he is always known for. When he is in such a happy disposition, only one thing comes to mind. There are no huge distractions in the training camp and he is totally focused for the fight.
Therefore, all I can say is ? ?Watch out Bradley. The Pacific Storm is back!?
What is so amazing at the event is that some of the biggest media outfits where not there maneuvering for space at the ring apron. But their absence did not lessen the attention Pacquiao clearly deserves.
Those who were there such as GMA, ESPN and Telemundo made up for it and Pacquiao appeared to have had a great time going around the ring answering questions that in some instance seem to be the same that were asked over and over again.
Ha! Media Day!
After the round of interviews, Pacquiao donned his blue ?Winnings? gloves and had a couple of rounds hitting the mitts with Freddie Roach. Of course, the speed is very apparent and the way his shots boomed across the room when he hits the mitts, there is no doubt that the man is back!
Then he did the double bag not for the usual training but more for a photo op for the press. This was followed by shadow boxing to help him cool down before he headed back to the dressing room (again with Salazar at the door) to change preparatory to a late lunch with some select few at Nat?s Thai Restaurant.
There was one major changed that I clearly noticed. It appears there is a new photographer for Team Pacquaio.
The Filipino photographers appear to have been displaced. Somebody said this all started in Macau with the Rios fight. I missed that one so how would I know.
Hey nothing wrong with that I guess. But who picked the new guy? Buboy Fernandez said it was not Pacquiao himself.
Be that as it may, I wish the guy who is now charged with takings photos of Pacquiao will use quality equipment to produce quality photos. As I observed today, he was not using anything that is clearly superior from the second rate cameras that I use. I guess all I am saying is if one is in that very important position, he should have the best tools in the trade.
Ask Chris Farina. Or even Mike Quidilla. They know cameras.
