Monterrey, Mexico: This afternoon, at the sprawling compound of one of the world?s best beer maker Tecate, the promoters for Saturday?s big fight at the Arena Monterrey held the official weigh-in for the fighters in the fight card.

All the participants staying at the Safi Royal Luxury Hotel had the privilege of riding the Tecate Bus to the venue. The local fighters however came on their own to the site.

A good size crowd came to the ?open to the public? weigh-in including some of the area?s big outfits for television and newspapers.

Filipino WBO world minimum weight champion Melito Sabillo did not have any problem making weight. In fact he came in half a pound under at 104.5 lbs.

His opponent, Francisco Rodriguez came in exactly 105 lbs but he needed to be recalled to the scales by the commission as he stepped out too fast from the scales when he knew he hit the required weight of 105. But, he really did not have an issue. He made weight on the nose at 105 lbs.

Right after Sabillo stepped off the scales and after the obligatory face-off photos for the press, Team Sabillo did not bother to wait for the bus to bring them back to Safi. ALA Promotions manager on site, Dennis Canete and chief trainer Editor Villamor thought it wise to feed and rest Sabillo in preparation for tomorrow?s big fight. They took the cab back to the hotel, a short ride via the city?s main thoroughfare where drivers drove like Filipinos in Manila.

Back at the hotel, Sabillo had a large plate of the hotel?s best pasta dish and plenty of fresh salad vegetables and fruit juices. He declared himself fit and ready to go after the big late lunch.

Following lunch, Sabillo retired to his room and Canete, Villamor, assistant trainer Michael Domingo and yours truly attended the Rules Meeting presided by the area?s boxing commissioner and the referee for the fight.
