PINOY PRIDE XXIV: SERVANIA MAULS MU?OZ, STOPS FORMER CHAMP IN 12TH

PARA?AQUE CITY- Genesis ?Azukal? Servania fought through blood in the second half of the fight and capped the evening with a sensational TKO win in the final round to retain his WBO Inter-Continental super bantamweight title. Former WBA super flyweight world champion Alexander ?El Explosivo? Mu?oz of Venezuela showed the heart of a champion but youth prevailed in the end.
The adversaries showed restraint and respect for most of the opening round but Servania managed to connect with a left hook and overhand right. Servania forced Mu?oz on the defensive and the Venezuelan suffered a knockdown in the second courtesy of a right to the body and head. Mu?oz was still standing and tried to make a fight out of it, inflicting a cut on Servania?s left eyelid in the 6th round.
Mu?oz even increased his punch output in the 7th and an accidental clash of heads caused more blood to flow from Servania?s cut. Servania stalked and pounded a retreating Munoz and knocked down the Venezuelan with a left to the midsection.
Mu?oz showed a champion?s pride and still got up. Servania tried to land a finishing punch in the 10th and 11th rounds but Mu?oz still managed to counter. A hard right sent Mu?oz down again in the 12th, he got up on unsteady legs prompting referee Danrex Tapdasan to stop the fight at 2:22
In his post-fight interview, Servania complained of leg cramps while Mu?oz got a well deserved applause from the crowd.

?Prince? Albert Pagara made it a very short night for Isack Junior of Indonesia, who was knocked out by a left hook and a right straight to the liver. Referee Ver Abainza reached the ten count at 2:41.
In an incredible display of heart and will power, substitute fighter Fernando Aguilar of Mexico gave ?King? Arthur Villanueva all that he could handle. What was supposed to be a walk in the park turned into a pitched battle as Villanueva was befuddled by the Mexican?s toughness and durability.
Aguilar?s Mexican warrior pedigree unraveled after a clash of heads opened a cut on his left cheek. Despite the cut, Aguilar kept the pressure and lured Villanueva into a close quarter combat. Villanueva had the edge in quality and volume but Aguilar was like a small version of Ruslan Provodnikov. A point was deducted from Aguilar by referee Bruce McTavish due to a low blow in the 9th.
Villanueva?s accuracy pulled him through but barely. The scores ? Gerald Tomeldan ? 94-93, Gil Co ? 95-92, Atty. Danrex Tapdasan ? 96-91.
For the other supporting matches ? Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo won by TKO in the 6th and final round against the rough and dangerous Royroy Sumugat. Time 0:56. Sumugat was knocked down by accumulation of head and body blows. He got up but turned his back prompting referee Warren Jaro to stop the bout.
Melvin ?Top Gun? Gumban had too much of everything against Dino Lelis, who was at the receiving end of countless head blows prompting the stoppage in the fifth round. Time ? 2:01.
?Vicious? Vic Saludar won by TKO in the 4th round against erstwhile unbeaten Philip Luis Cuerdo. They exchanged well placed power punches in the first three rounds but in the 4th, Saludar exploded with two right straights in the 4th sending Cuerdo towards the ropes. Saludar unleashed a brutal volley prompting the stoppage. Time 2;38.
Reymi Castellano Aleye of Cuba gave Diover Magaya-ay a one-sided beating that lasted the full 6 rounds. Aleye bombarded Mangaya-ay with an array of body and head shots, including exquisite five and six punch combinations. The Cuban?s excellent footwork also enabled him to easily get out of harm?s way.
Scores ? 60-54, 60-54 and 59-54.
