DOLIGUEZ DEFEATS SITHSAITONG IN AGONCILLO BOXING

Philippine boxing rising star Jun ?Hercules? Doliguez of the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym defeated Thailand?s Maxsaisai Sithsaitong scoring a 9th round TKO in their junior-lightweight bout in last night?s main event of the card presented by Saved by the Bell Promotions at the Agoncillo Sports Complex, Agoncillo Batangas.
Doliguez immediately opened fire by scoring a knockdown in the first round. The Thai was not hurt though and indicated so with his facial expression. It was the Sarangani native Doliguez, however, who was the aggressor the rest of the way frequently firing wicked shots but most of which were avoided by the elusive and defensive-minded Thai. Doliguez did find some success with work to the body effectively slowing the forever durable Sithsaitong. In the 9th round, the Thai was dropped for the second time by a Doliguez combination to the body upon which the referee waived off the fight at 2:18 of the said round.
In the supporting main event, Al Rivera of the Brunsmick Gym of Santa Rosa, Laguna won over Ronald Pastrano of the RC Boxing Stable of Mandaluyong when the latter quit at the rest period of the 3rd round in their lightweight bout scheduled for 10 rounds. After a feeling out first round, the two fighters began to engage with Rivera getting much better of the exchanges.
Summarizing the results of the other bouts:
Rey Perez of the Brunsmick Gym defeated Val Facunaya of the Kambal Kamao Boxing Gym of LIpa, Batangas via a unanimous decision by the scores of 96-92, 96-92, and 96-90 in their 10-round featherweight bout Perez easily won the first round feasting Falcunaya?s head with a left hook. The former then scored a knockdown in the 2nd round with a perfectly timed uppercut to the chin. A point was also taken from Falcunaya in this round for a cut suffered by Perez from accidental headbutt. Falcunaya later made the bout competitive beginning the 3rd round by pushing Perez to the ropes which the latter obliged. Although Falcunaya managed to score to the body, Perez, who was clearly exhausted in the closing rounds, was able to neutralize the former?s attack coming up with crisp and clean counters to the head and coming out the winner in the process.
Benezer Alolod of Brunsmick Gym defeated Jayson Rotoni of the Fitness Boxing Gym of Makati via a 5th round TKO in their junior-flyweight bout when the latter was no longer fit to continue due to the gravity of the cut he sustained above his left eye which came from a punch. Alolod boxed beautifully in the first two rounds scoring clean shots with precision and timing. However, he eased up his activity in the 3rd round and Rotoni began scoring to the body in the said round and much of the 4th round. A late flurry by Alolod in the latter round opened a nasty cut above the left eye of Rotoni. Early in the 5th round, Rotoni scored with a flash knockdown when Alolod lost his balance after being caught by a clean punch. Alolod came back and scored another flurry further damaging the cut sustained by Rotoni. After checking on the cut, the ring physician advised for the stoppage of the fight which the referee did immediately at 1:36 of the round. The bout was scheduled for 10 rounds.
JR Magboo of the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym scored his biggest victory to date by defeating the veteran and former Philippine super-flyweight champion Danilo Pena of the Elorde Gym via a 3rd
round TKO in their junior featherweight bout. In the 1st round, Magboo scored his first knockdown when a left hook staggered Pena and only the ropes prevented him from falling to the canvas. In the 2nd round Pena returned the complement when a straight right to the chin sent Magboo down. In the 3rd round, Magboo caught Pena with a combination to the head sending the latter another trip to the canvas. The referee stopped the fight upon seeing Pena too unsteady to continue. The bout was scheduled for 10 rounds.
Dizon Cag-ong of the Brunsmick Gym defeated Gabriel Royo of the Monis Stable via a 1st round TKO in their junior-lightweight bout. Cag-ong made a pummeling of Royo which produced a serious swelling to the latter?s eye. With Royo?s left eye literally closed, the fight was stopped at the rest period of the 1st round. The bout was scheduled for 10 rounds.
In the most entertaining fight of the night, Jethro Pabustan of the Touch Gloves Boxing Stable came out the winner over Michael Escobia of the Elorde Stable via a unanimous decision by the scores of 96-93, 96-93, and 95-94 in their 10-round junior-featherweight bout. Pabustan boxed beautifully in the first few rounds and easily neutralized the tricky Escobia. However, Pabustan surprisingly reduced his activity rate and allowed Escobia to come back strong with good body work that clearly hurt Pabustan. Luckily for Pabustan, he managed to avert the assault with smart clinching. A point deducted on Escobia for a Pabustan cut in the 8th round from an accidental headbutt did not help the former either which widened the margin in two of judges? scorecards and proved to be the differential in the other judge?s tallysheet..
In the curtain raiser between JC Francisco of the Hardstone Monis Stable of Bangar, La Union and Dexter Dimaculangan of the Empemano Stable of San Pablo Laguna, their head-to-head score remained even when their 8-round junior flyweight bout ended in a split draw (77-75 for Francisco, 78-74 for Dimaculangan, and 76-76). It was a highly entertaining fight where both fighters were alternating with their moments.
The event was co-promoted by Elmer Anuran of the Saved by the Bell Promotions, Engr. Ariel Araja of the Brunsmick Gym of Santa Rosa, Laguna, with participation by Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions.
