Boxing patron Naris Singwangcha of Thailand will extend a helping hand to Filipino boxers from Tacloban City and other areas hit by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), the powerful storm that struck the Philippines last November and caused widespread devastation and the loss of thousands of lives.

Promoter Aljoe Jaro informed philboxing via e-mail yesterday that Singwangcha spoke to him during the WBC convention and said that he wanted to help those who suffered during and after the typhoon. They discussed this with GAB chair Juan Ramon Guanzon, Dr. Nasser Cruz and matchmaker Brico Santig.

In a press conference, Jaro stated that they launched Singwangcha Foundation Philippines LINGAP BOXINGERO, which aims to provide financial aid not just to the boxers living in typhoon stricken areas but to all Filipino boxers in need of monetary assistance.

Jaro also announced that on December 29, they will promote a fight card at the Ynares Center Antipolo, a double regional WBC ABCO title card where Naris Singwangcha will personally extend the assistance for the boxers.

Jaro promotions will provide a bus for travel to Manila and free food and lodging expenses for the fighters.

Jaro also included his contact details - office number 02-2134066 and cell phone number 09064961371 for the boxers qualified for assistance. They will also need to contact the GAB office and fill out a form documenting that they are from typhoon devastated areas. The contact number in the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) website for the boxing division is (+632) 810 5177.

In his e-mail, Jaro praised Singwangcha for his continuing generosity towards Filipino boxers.

"He has given millions of pesos to help boxers and promote boxing here in the Philippines," Jaro said, "All Naris wants is to have his surname attached to the boxers that he sponsors. I see nothing bad or illegal in that. He is not aiming to change to name of the boxer. Being a businessman, Naris knows the importance of attaching a name to a product."

"Denver Cuello fights under the name Cuello Singwangcha. When he injured his shoulder, Naris helped him, even continued to pay for his allowance. All Naris wants is for Denver to be a world champion. He never asked anything in return." Jaro added. "Boxers like actors, change names and have monickers. Naris is content and happy just to see his name attached to a winning fighter. He has helped local boxing a lot. especially now that it is very difficult to find local sponsors."
