
ALA-COBRA: ?PRINCE? PAGARA REMAINS UNBEATEN

DUMAGUETE CITY ? ?Prince? Albert Pagara of the ALA Gym relied on his speed and boxing skills turn back to rough and tough Gadwin Tubigon by unanimous decision after ten rounds. Both boxers were hesitant to mix it up in the early going but Tubigon steadily applied pressure to pin Pagara on the ropes and unload with hooks to the midsection.
Pagara used his accurate jab and lateral movement in his effort to keep Tubigon at bay. As the fight evolved, Pagara had to dig deep into his arsenal. His stick and move routine made him score the cleaner blows. Tubigon tried to land a haymaker in the final round but Pagara?s one-two combos diffused Tubigon?s last ditch effort.
The scorecards read ? scoring Referee Teddy Alivio ? 97-94, judge Nic Banal 98-92 and judge Ben Necesario ? 98-92 . The 19 year old Pagara keeps his unblemished record at at 18-0, 12KO?s while the 29 year old Tubigon drops to 9-8-2, 4 KO?s.
This fight served as the main event of the ALA-Cobra ?Tunay na Lakas? fight card held Saturday at the Freedom Park in Dumaguete City.
In a battle of southpaws, Jaymart Toyco won by TKO in the 7th round and gave Juren Labordo his first career loss. Labordo suffered a knockdown in the second when he walked into a counter right hook. He got up and rallied with right hooks of his own in the subsequent rounds but was cut on the left eyebrow due to a clash of heads in the fifth round.
Toyco was deducted a point Labordo managed to pin Toyco on the ropes in the 6th but Toyco was able to punch his way out of trouble. Repeated low blows once again cost Toyco a point.
In the 7th, Toyco applied more pressure and knocked Labordo down with punishing body shots. Labordo got up but signaled that he did not want to continue. Time 1:21. Labordo is now 11-1, 7 KO?s while Toyco moves up to 14-4, 10KO?s.
Roma Rate was more accurate and won by unanimous decision against Reymund Tabogon. The scorecards read : scoring referee Nic Banal ? 79-72, Ben Necesario ? 78-73 and Teddy Alivio -78-75. Tabogon was deducted a point in the 7th round for an accidental headbutt that inflicted a cut on Rate?s scalp.
In an intense brawl, Boyce Sultan edged Royroy Sumugat by split decision after eight rounds. Sultan was knocked down in the third but continued to trade at close range. Sumugat lost a point in the 4th for an accidental clash of heads that caused a cut on Sultan?s right eyebrow. Sulatan proved to be steadier in the home stretch. The scores ? scoring referee Teddy Alivio ? 76-75 and judge Nic Banal 76-74 for Sultan, Ben Necesario had it 76-74 for Sumugat.
Crispin Parba unleashed a series of hooks to the ribs to send Marvin Catipay down twice and win by KO at 1:34 of round two Belmar Plaza won by TKO in the second round against Kim Galon. Plaza decked Galon in the first and second round prompting Referee Nic Banal to stop the fight at 2:21.
Raul Yu beat Andrew Palas by TKO due to a cut at the end of the 5th round. The boxers traded hard shots at close quarters and a clash of heads in the 5th inflicted a cut on the left side of Palas? forehead.
The action continued but more blood seeped from Palas? periorbital area and subsequent examination at the end of the fifth showed a second cut on the left eyelid which led to the stoppage. Referee Teddy Alivio ruled that the second cut was due to a legal blow giving Yu the victory.
Geo ?Santino? Santisima knocked out Jamjam Ungon in the second round. Time - 2:41.
In the first pro bout of the evening, Jay Solomon knocked out Eddie Liparanon with a hook to the jaw in 1:34 of the opening round. The bouts were sanctioned and supervised by the officials of GAB-Cebu.
The free to the public event was kicked off by the ALA-SUMMIT Natural Drinking Water amateur boxing series which featured standouts from Negros Oriental and Mandaue City, Cebu.
