ANDRE WARD ? EDWIN RODGRIGUEZ FULL FIGHT RESULTS AND PHOTOS

Ontario, CA:- Goossen Tutor Promotions in association with SOG Promotions and their sponsors Toyota Vayamos, Morongo Casino Resort, Di Bella Entertainment and the City of Ontario put up a smashing fight card today at the Citizen Business Bank Arena in this city.
The attendance was less than what was expected with barely about 3000 people in the venue. Those that stayed away and elected to see it free in the comfort of their homes via HBO missed the ambiance of the wonderful fight card that was pre-conditioned by the challenger not making weight yesterday and refused to make the weight there after therefore forfeiting 20% of his purse.
Edwin ?La Bomba? Rodriguez (24-1-0, 16KO) of the Dominican Republic was two pounds overweight yesterday and did not bother to lose some more to make the weight limit of 168 lbs. But to his credit he came in 0.2 lbs under the maximum allowed for him to weigh this morning. His opponent, WBA champion Andre Ward (27-0-0, 14KO) had no problem with his weight.
HBO and the promoters pulled all the strings they can pull to make the fight happen. At one point it almost did not happen as Ward?s people wanted more than the 20% taken away from Rodriguez.
Tonight all the brouhaha about the weight issues yesterday were all gone. Ward and Rodriguez came to fight (above photo).
Pundits had concerns about Ward?s long absence from the ring. They were thinking of ?ring rust?, a common occurrence after boxers take a long lay-off.
But Ward tonight was like the shiny stainless steel of a samurai sword. Not even an iota of ring rust was evident in him.
The Oakland, California native in fact displayed a very impressive show of talent. He dominated the fight after the initial bull rush of Rodriguez when the first bell rung. After that initial display of false bravado, Rodriguez was reduced to a ?no-factor? opponent. Ward constantly beat him to the punch particularly with his lead left to the face followed by a right to the body.
In the fourth round, both fighters resorted to some rough housing initiated by Rodriguez. Referee Jack Reese had none of that display of bad sportsmanship and deducted two points each from both fighters.
In the end Ward showed that he was the better man between the two undefeated fighters.
He picked apart his opponent although in a few instances, he was tagged as well. There were no knockdowns in the 12 round fight which ended with Ward winning by a wide unanimous decision. The scores were 118-106, 117-107, 116-108. Thus, he retained his title. Rodriguez being overweight had no chance to win the belt. Had he won the fight, the title would have been declared vacant.
Other results:
Local boy Jonathan Arellano (14-2 2, 3KO) of Ontario fought a ticky-tack battle with Charles Huerta (18-4-0, 11 KO), the pride of Paramount, California. Arellano was more aggressive and determined barely edge Huerta. The scores were 76-76, 80-72 and 78-74.

Gonzales vs Nelson.
Undefeated super middleweight, Brando Gonzales (18-0-1,10KO) of Sacramento tangled with a fellow undefeated fighter from Little Rock, Arkansas Jonathan Nelson (19-1-0, 9KO). The fight was competitive at the start with Nelson showing flashes of speed and footwork but he was gradually broken down by the Californian. Nelson in the end was hanging for dear life just waiting for the bell to end the fight. The scores were 99-91,99-91 and 98-92 for Gonzales.
Sergio ?The Snake? Mora (25-3-2, 8KO) of Los Angeles who is better known for his participation in the ?Contender? TV series of fights took 5 long rounds to finally get the measure of Milton Nunez (26-9-2, 24KO) of Barranquilla, Columbia. Mora knocked down the Columbian in round 5 and followed up with a series of punches when the 8 count was concluded and the fight resumed making the referee stop the fight at 2:53 of the round.

Molina vs Sanchez.
Oscar Molina (7-0-0, 6 KO) a member of the 2012 Mexican Olympic Team beat an obviously lesser opponent in Carlos Sanchez (6-5-0, 2KO) of Denver, Colorado. The fight was stopped at the of 4 rounds after the ring doctor had a quick look at Sanchez.
John Molina Jr (27-3-0, 21KO) of Los Angeles knocked down Jorge Pimentel (26-28-0, 19 KO) of Guaymas, Mexico three times in round 2, the last one via a classic liver shot forcing the referee to stop the fight at 2:59 of round 2.

Justin Deloach (6-0-0, 3KO) of Georgia, Louisiana took 6 minutes and 51 seconds to end his fight with Robert Hill (1-2-0,0KO) of Inglewood, CA. Deloach was declared winner by KO 5i seconds in round 3.
In the curtain raiser, Tony Hirsch (15-5-2,0KO) of Oakland, CA won via a UD over Donyil Livingston ( 8-4-1, 4KO) of Palmdale, CA.
