Lionel Singwangcha Legada won a close and action-packed contest for the vacant WBC ABCO continental flyweight championship against Lionel Mark Duran last Saturday at the Ynares Plaza in Binangonan, Rizal.
Promoter Aljoe Aljoe informed philboxing that Duran knocked down Legada twice in the opening round. Legada recovered and rallied from rounds two to five. Legada took a break for three rounds allowing Duran to catch up. Jaro stated that Legada took the final four rounds which made him win a split decision.
The scores - Sammy Bernabe 113-112, Romeo Yulo 112-113, Jerrold Tomeldan 113-112.
Legada, from the Jaro Boxing Gym, moves up to 11-5-1, 5 KO?s while Duran, from the Elorde gym of Paranaque City, drops to 10-9-2, 4 Ko?s.
Col. Damrong Simakajornboon of Thailand was the fight supervisor. Jaro said that Col.Damrong was impressed by the boxers 'performance and he will recommend the fight to be awarded fight of the year for WBC Asia.
He also that this was one of best fights he had seen in years and that during the WBC convention in Thailand this November 3 to 9, he will recommend Legada go up the WBC ratings from number 27 to the top 15.
Legada was coming off a split decision loss to China?s Wang Xin Hua in Dubai last June. This bout was on the undercard of Denver Cuello?s ill-fated attempt to dethrone WBC world strawweight champ Xiong Zhao Zhong of China; Cuello lost a majority decision when he fought with an injured shoulder. Legada was also Cuello?s sparring partner in Dubai.
Boy Dondee Pumar beat Dino Lelis by 6th round TKO for the PBF bantamweight belt. This boxing event was presented by Jaro International Promotions and Atty. Ruben Platon in cooperation with Naris Singwangcha, Mayor Boyet Ynares, Kapitana Mary Ann Ocaya and Gov. Nini Ynares of Rizal.
