Palami.
BACOLOD CITY ? Azkals team manager Dan Palami and Dr. Emily Zerrudo, LOC Medical Officer, this morning clarified ?food poisoning? issue which reported earlier to have affected several members of the Philippine national team.

In a press conference held at the Planta Hotel, Palami said, ?I came just to clarify certain things so that it will not appear that there was no coordination between the team and the hotel. What was usually done here in the hotel is that our team nutritionist has a close coordination with the hotel chef as to the food preparation for the team. And I think everything has been followed thus, we are quite confident that they (hotel) has provided us of the food we wanted and what was ordered,? Palami explained. ?So far the team has been very much contented with the way the hotel is feeding us and of course with the meals that has prepared for us,? he added.

?I think it?s premature to say that it was food poisoning. But for players and non-medical practitioners, whenever they have stomach irregularities, they presumes it's food poisoning,? he said. ?However, because some of the players had problems with their stomachs so we opted for them not to practice and take them some rest,? he added. This after some of the Azkals? experienced stomach problems following their Friday?s game that caused them symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting.

Palami also lauded the LOC on how they have responded to the emergency situation ? having the doctor available to attend to the players? needs. ?I also thanked the hotel for opening its facilities for the players to be more comfortable,? he added. ?And, as of yesterday, all the players have fully participated in the training.?

When asked whether they have met with the hotel management to discuss the issue, Palami said that if they were not contented and satisfied with how they were treated, and then they would have called for a meeting. ?That?s why the clarification is here to make sure that the people don?t misunderstand the initial reports about the food poisoning. In fairness, we have been treated very well by Bacolod. And certain statements may be taken out of context and misunderstood,? he said. ?And given the chance to play here again, we will really appreciate, and if booked in Planta Hotel we will be very happy,? he added.

On the other hand, Dr. Zerrudo explained that what happened to some of the Azkals was ?gastric irritation?.

?On Saturday, I was called by the team to medically see the initial seven players who complained of vomiting and diarrhea. They were advised hydration orally. But, late Saturday, one of the players still showed sign mild dehydration,? he said. ?But, nobody was hospitalized. And to label it as food poisoning, it?s too harsh. We have to do lots of laboratories to determine it was food poisoning. But, investigation continues on the real cause of that incident,? she expalined. (WATCHMEN DAILY JOURNAL)
