CEBU CITY ? Tomoki Kameda of Japan arrived in Cebu Friday to continue his training and promote his upcoming title challenge against WBO bantamweight world champion Paulus Ambunda of Namibia which is set on August 1 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

Kameda sparred with Philippine super flyweight champion Marco Demecillo at the RWS Gym in Labangon Saturday afternoon. The session was witnessed by Cebu sportswriters who were impressed by the Japanese contender?s skills.

Kameda belongs to a very popular boxing family in Japan. His brother Koki and Daiki were in Cebu last year also for sparring and training at the RWS Gym. Koki is the WBA bantamweight champion and Daiki is a former WBA flyweight champion.

Tomoki had an interview session with the Cebu sportswriters after his training session. This is his first time to visit Cebu but he has been to Manila many times before.

He described his training as ?So far so good, and his training camp is wonderful.? He considers his stint here to be very advantageous. Kameda also has a Cebuano trainer in his corner ? Sulpicio Ano-os. Kameda said that if he wins the title he would like to fight in various countries and he would like to defend in Cebu against a Filipino challenger. A victory by Tomoki would be quite an achievement, considering that he will be the third Kameda sibling to win a world title.

Ambunda became champion after he dethroned Pungluang Sor Singyu, the Thai who beat AJ Banal at the Mall of Asia Arena last year. Marco Demecillo also spoke to philboxing and he said that Kameda had very good lateral movement and was a very good boxer. Demecillo is due to defend his title this August possibly in Cagayan de Oro.

Team Kameda is set to have a press conference on Thursday and will be leaving again for Japan on Friday. He will return to Cebu a week before the title bout. Ambunda vs Kameda is promoted by Kameda Boxing Promotions and Rex ?Wakee? Salud Promotions.
