Kanaan.
The annual traditional Memorial Day event in the auto racing world, the Indianapolis 500 aka INDY 500 had just concluded.

The plum in auto racing which at one point was up for grabs by 5 drivers was in most part determined with the help of the pit crew, besides of course the driver?s skills.

In the last few laps, the time needed to change tires, re-fuel and return to the tract was vital because there were many lead changes, 68 at some point.

With about 10 laps to go, Graham Rahal tried to drip up top in order to improve his position but unfortunately lost control and hit the wall.

The accident caused the appearance of the yellow caution flag so crew can clean the debris off the tract.

At that point the race is between Marco Andretti, Tony Kanaan, Justin Wilson and Carlos Munoz.

But the yellow ?Caution? flag killed off what could have been a fast and furious finish to the finish line.

When the re-start occurred there was a fight for the pole position but Dario Franchitti hit the wall behind the leaders forcing the officials to bring out the yellow flag again.

Tony Kanaan who took the lead at the restart of the race essentially won the race. At that point, with just two laps to go and under the yellow flag no one can take away the ?checkered flag? from Kanaan anymore.

Although it was not traditional for the race to the finish like in the past and it occurred under the yellow flag, it was nonetheless well deserved by the 38 year old racer from Salvador, Brazil who started the race in the 12th position.

It took 12 years for the Brazilian to finally get to the checkered winners? deck but it was well worth it. ?We have been known as losers before, now I guess we will be known as winners as well,? Kanaan said as he gulp the traditional bottle of fresh cold milk.

The second place went to a 21-year old rookie from Columbia, Carlos Munoz followed by Ryan Hunter-Reay, Marco Andretti, Justin Wilson and Helio Castro Verdes.

Rounding up the top ten are Al Allmendinger, Simon Peenaud, Charlie Kimball and the pole leader at the start of the race, Ed Carpenter.
