Schaefer and Gray.
Right after Lucas Matthysse (33-2-0, 32) of Argentina devastated highly regarded American 140 pounder Lamont Peterson, (31-1-1,16) he had to go through the customary interview with TV host, Jim Gray for the viewers of ShowTime.

However, before Gray was able to throw his first question for the heavy handed Argentinean and on live TV, Richard Schaefer of the Golden Boy Promotions, grabbed the microphone from Gray and said ?Let me first say something. We have a new Manny Pacquiao and he is from Argentina. Lucas the Matthysee. Matthysee!?

Coming from the GBP CEO, that is indeed a surprise.

It was unbelievable that he would put Matthysee at the same strata as Pacquiao when the latter had accomplished more than the former in the boxing world.

Perhaps, at the rate the Argentinean is going, in the future that would be appropriate but it?s too early to say that now.

But then Schaefer could easily be the new Bob Arum so coming from him especially in the heat of victory, that is not too difficult to really understand.

Nonetheless, it?s still surprising.

The victory of Matthysee which came as described by my PhilBoxing colleague, Rich Mazon who saw the fight live at Atlantic City, as ?an annihilation? earned him a possible showdown with Danny ?Swift? Garcia.

In paper, the fight should not be too difficult to make. Both Matthysse and Garcia are under the banner of the GBP. Besides, Matthysse during the interview with Gray indicated that if GBP can put it together, he will gladly fight Garcia.

That fight should be the barometer if Schaefer?s description of Lucas Matthysse is pointed to the right direction.
