MANILA, Philippines -- TDS HOPE CHRISTIAN Academy's John Lester "The Rocket" Lagman will be competing for Team Philippines at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships to be held in San Diego, California from July 15 to 19, 2013.
The Quezon City pride Lagman, nephew of sportsman/businessman Mikee Lagman Romero, playing under the banner of Eastridge Golf and Veterans Golf Club and is coached by Jose "Jun" Cedo, earned a spot on Team Philippines in the just concluded qualifying round held at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships.
In spite of all the intensity, a very bad 2nd round that made "The Rocket" Lagman fall back from 2nd to 8th place, he showed maturity and calmness. He fought back in the remaining rounds, showing a steady nerve, coolness under pressure and defied all odds to qualify for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships to be held in San Diego, California.
Fondly called "The Rocket" Lagman, he made his mark when he averted what could have been a medal shut-out in Junior Golf by capturing the bronze in the 10th Sutera Harbour Junior Amateur Open 2011 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. The 2-time Echiverri Golf over-all champion "The Rocket" Lagman, tallied 154 (80-74) en route to the coveted bronze medal. The son of Ferdie "Jon Jon" Lagman is also the reigning Most Valuable Player and over-all inter school golf champion.
Completing Philippine Delegation for class B for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships are Philippine Junior Golf Champion Kristoffer Arevalo, Cebu's Junior Champion Weiwei Gao and Cagayan de Oro's Jets Sajulga, who is under the wing of respected senior Pro Frankie Minoza.
Meanwhile, Jed Llamado Dy (Boys 7-8), who tallied 184 score and Francesca Bernice Olivarez-Ilas (Girls 9-10), who notched 167 score, topped their respective division in last year's edition of Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in San Diego, California. -Marlon Bernardino-
