DALAGUETE, CEBU ? In a close and compelling contest, Virgilio ?Maton? Silvano turned back the challenge of Louie Arlos and retained the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight title at the Dalaguete Sports Complex.
Arlos started the fight on the backfoot and pumped his jab, trying to keep Silvano at bay. Silvano caught him with a hard right hook but Arlos shook it off. In the next two rounds, Arlos tagged Silvano with sharp one-two combos. Silvano pressed the action and landed solid hooks but Arlos established an early lead.
In the 4th, the two southpaws traded power shots and in the 5th Arlos stung Silvano with a straight left. In the sixth round, Arlos hit the canvas but it was ruled a slip. He got up visibly hurt and was at the receiving end of brutal head and body shots in the seventh round.
Arlos stayed on his feet but continued to fade in the eighth canto as Silvano mounted a blistering rally. In the 9th round, Arlos regained the strength in his legs but Silvano continued his assault. In the tenth and final round, with the outcome hanging in the balance, they took turns landing punishing hooks but Silvano had the higher punch output in the endgame.
The three judges had it for Silvano ? 96-94, 97-93 and 96-94.
Silvano (14W-2L-1D,8 KO?s), who fights out of the Omega Gym of Cebu, is the number one light flyweight contender in the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) rankings and mandatory challenger to OPBF lt.flyweight champion Shin Ono of Japan. Arlos drops to his second career loss - 7W-2L, 2 KO's.
Randy ?Komong Bato? Suico had his first win in more than two years when he stopped a hapless William Jorge with a right cross at 1:54 of the first round. Jorge?s legs twitched before he crashed to the canvas prompting Referee Teddy Alivio to immediately signal the end of bout.

Jimboy Haya and Kenan Villaflor fought to a six round majority draw. Villaflor was knocked down in round two but continued to take the fight to Haya. The scorecards read 57-57 on two judges and one had it for Haya 57-56.
