Will Denver 'The Excitement' Cuello get his long awaited title shot this year?

Promoter Aljoe Jaro has been negotiating feverishly for the much avoided power puncher from Iloilo to secure his first shot at a world title. In an e-mail message to philboxing, Jaro said that WBC Pres. Don Jose Sulaiman has stated that the organization will not neglect Cuello and he will get his chance to challenge for a world title by the middle of 2013 at the latest.

Cuello, the WBC's number one ranked challenger in the 105 lb division, was asked to step aside when the title became vacant to pave the way for a WBC world title fight in China involving the Xiong Zhao Zhong and Javier Martinez.

Cuello (32W-4L-6D, 21 KO's) has been a 'champion in waiting' and highly ranked in the WBC for the past couple of years. He acquired the mandatory challenger status in a final eliminator last May 2012 when he stopped Mexican Ganigan Lopez in two rounds in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Cuello was supposed to challenge the winner of the Zhong-Martinez title fight but the WBC opted to allow the new champion Zhong to stage a defense against another boxer instead of Cuello.
?I explained to Mr. Sulaiman that Cuello is very poor. That is why he will try his very best to become a green belt champion to help his mother, father and his own family.? Jaro said. ?I had to make them understand that what I am doing is for the boxer. Denver was expecting to fight for a title. He needs to fight to earn and feed his family. I hope they will not ignore him.?
