ROBERT GARCIA HAS A BIG DECISION TO MAKE IF DONAIRE MOVES UP TO FEATHERWEIGHT

In the wake of the difficulty in making the Donaire?Mares a reality anytime soon due to the petty personal and business issues between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, it appears likely that Donaire will abandon the super bantamweight division and move up one notch to the featherweight level.
That could happen as soon as he dispatches the Cuban slugger, Guillermo Rigondeaux early next year.
At the featherweight level, he could challenge any of the current champions - Daniel Ponce de Leon of the WBC, Billy Dib of the IBF or Nicolas Walters of the WBA if they are still champions when that time comes around.
But the fight that will be most attractive for Donaire will be one that involves the winner between WBC champion Orlando Salido and Mikey Garcia of Oxnard, CA. on January 17, 2013.
The fight scheduled at New York?s MSG is a toss?up. It appears that the two are almost equally matched with Salido being the champion and more experienced having a very slight edge.
A Salido victory would not cause too many ripples in so far as a match with Donaire is concerned because there is no common denominator present. In fact a Salido-Donaire fight would be exciting to watch.
However, a Mikey Garcia victory over Salido will.
And, the ripple effect will be a huge one considering that Robert Garcia trains both his brother Mikey and Donaire.
No need for rocket science to know that Robert Garcia will definitely go with his brother Mikey.
After all, blood is thicker than water isn?t it? Well, okay, sometimes.
With that Donaire has no other choice but stick with his trainers from the Undisputed Gym in the greater Bay Area.
Nothing wrong with that. Mikael Bazzel and Brian Schwartz, are very good anyway and will get by really well without Garcia.
In fact with Garcia increasingly unable to devote full time training of Donaire, it may well be better if Donaire simply sticks with his guys at Undisputed Gym.
The only thing Team Donaire has to do is come up with a new game plan that is not familiar with Robert Garcia so that they will not be placed on a disadvantage.
If the Donaire-Mikey Garcia happens it could possibly be a bit harder fight for Donaire considering that Mikey Garcia is also in his prime or very close to it.
However with or with out the Robert Garcia factor, I am positive Donaire will give Mikey Garcia a lesson in boxing and his first defeat.
If Donaire lands his vaunted left hook, which I am sure he will at some point in the fight, Mikey Garcia will surely have a big problem with it.
It may even drop him and worse, knock him out.
