LOS ANGELES, CALIF.--The country's most promising prospect, the undefeated Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista, is now winding up training at the Wild Card Boxing Club here as he prepares for his December 2 showdown against Brazilian bomber Giovanni Andrade at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida.

After a 35-minute run in the La Brea area here yesterday , Bautista reported for his daily workout at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym at 10 AM for a two-hour workout in the run-up for his last fight for the year.

Bautista sparred for four hard rounds against former world title contender Dmitri Kirilov, who is ranked IBF no. 3, and another four rounds against undefeated Michael Franco.

After the workout, Bautista and Filipino trainer Ala Villamor then proceeded to Dr. Richard S. Gluckman in San Pedro, California for the eye examination required by the Florida State Athletic Commission.

Bautista, who is now down to 126 lbs after his last workout, and Filipino trainer Villamor are set to fly to Florida on Monday , while trainer Freddie Roach joins the team on December 1 as he has to attend to another fighter, Vicente Escobedo, who will be fighting Julian Rodriguez on November 30 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento.

However, Bautista will have to hurdle his final sparring on Friday, a four-round hard sparring against one of the Wild Card gym fighters.

The 20-year-old Bautista, undefeated in 20 fights with 15 KO's, stakes his reputation in a 10-round brawl against Andrade, the power-punching veteran who has a win-loss record of 52-9 with 43 KO's.

"I can't wait to be on the ring again. It's been a long time since I had my last fight, so I'm now aching to get it on," said Bautista in an interview yesterday.

Prior to the December 2 fight, Bautista had to cancel two scheduled bouts--in the Philippines and the US--due to flu and right shoulder injury. This time, Bautista has vowed to inflict injury on his Brazilian opponent, who is called 'Bombardeio' in his native country owing to his powerful hands.

The Bautista-Andrade showdown is one of the undercards to the Winky Wright-Ike Quartey event promoted by Oscar De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.
