MANDAUE CITY ? If it wasn?t for the welts all over his face and the band-aid across his right eyebrow, Romnick Magos would not have stood out among the faces at ringside inside the Mandaue Sports Complex Sunday night. I knew he just arrived from Manila and he had a fight against Aston Palicte in Taguig City but I was not aware of the result.
?How did the fight go?? I asked him.
?I won.? He smiled.
I was a bit surprised to be honest, Palicte was undefeated in ten pro bouts. Magos on the other hand, was coming off a points loss in Thailand against Rusalee Samor.
?He knocked me down in the first round. I was groggy.? He said, ?But I managed to continue fighting and we exchanged hard punches. I knocked him down in rounds 3 and 4. I won by TKO.?
Palicte did not come out of his corner after the 4th.Magos, from Mabinay, Negros Oriental, proudly displayed his WBO Youth Asia Pacific flywieght belt when he was introduced before the fight card?s main event between Marco Demecillo Singwangcha and Jessie Tuyor. Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha was also at ringside and congratulated Magos.
The 21 year old Magos is now 8W-2L, 4 KO?s. His name is known only to the hardcore fans here in Cebu who frequent small fight cards. He has a crowd pleasing rough housing style which finally earned him the first belt of his career last Saturday. His stablemates from the Rex ?Wakee? Salud gym of Cebu celebrated with him.
