FILIPINO FIGHTERS ARE TYSON MARQUEZ?S WATERLOO

LA Sports Arena, Downtown Los Angeles: WBA Flyweight champion, Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez tried everything he can muster in an effort to unify the titles and beat the Hawaiian Punch, WBO champion Brian Viloria.
He even hired Robert Garcia of Oxnard, California, the former trainer of Brian Viloria in a fraught effort to learn about Viloria and possibly beat him.
But, the young Mexican forgot something along the way.
He conveniently forgot that Filipino fighters are his Waterloo.
The unknown Richie Mepranum in March 2010 beat him at Grapevine, Texas ending his undefeated record then.
Then for some insane reason four months later Marquez accepted a fight with the great Nonito Donaire Jr. As we all know, he failed miserably. He was stopped in round 8th.
To his credit however, somewhere down the line, he beat Edrin Dapudong, Fernando Lumacad and avenged his loss to unprepared Richie Mepranum.
Such wins possibly embolden him and he accepted a unification fight with Viloria.
Wrong choice!
Viloria is far cry better than the three. He is in fact a world champion.
Tonight at this old sports arena, Marquez bit more than he can chew. He was emphatically stopped by Brian Viloria who knocked him down three times en route to a KO in round 10.
Marquez? psyche changed after the first knock down. And it was further eroded when he was seemingly turning the tide in round five only to suffer another devastating knockdown.
But to his credit, he gave one hell of a fight although it was said after the fight that he only won one round against Viloria- the eighth round.
This writer happened to be at ringside taking photos right next to the Marquez corner. From my position, I can clearly hear Garcia yelling at his ward in order to shake him to his senses or at least encourage him to up the tempo of the fight.
But all is for naught as Marquez really had nothing else to offer to beat Viloria.
The Mexican gladiator from Sonora was done after the second knockdown for no matter what he did he could not drop Viloria. The Hawaiian Punch took everything Marquez threw at him including the proverbial kitchen sink.
What was worse for Marquez is when he seemingly gained the upper hand; Viloria will throw a beautifully timed counter punch and drop Marquez to the canvas.
Garcia was right in stopping the fight after the third knockdown in round 10. Marquez was done and it was no use to get him hurt some more.
For Viloria the win is a small consolation.
As the WBO champion, he may have to face a Filipino to defend his title.
Or he can keep the WBA title and give up the WBO title and give his fellow Filipinos a chance to win it for themselves.
But that story is for another time.
