Daniel Ruiz.
MINGLANILLA, CEBU - Coming from the beautiful municipality of Minglanilla Cebu, known for its KABANHAWAN FESTIVAL to the beautiful coastal city of Los Mochis, Sinaloa Mexico, Luis Gonzalez, one of the top young trainers in Los Mochis shares a little insight about his flashy and hard hitting boxer, Mexican WBC Latino Featherweight Champion Daniel ?Canerito? Ruiz (27-5-1-19Kos) of the La Raza Boxing Gym.

Ruiz will challenge one of the top boxers from the Philippines and world ranked #4 IBF and #11 WBO in the featherweight division, Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista (33-2-25KOs) for the prestigious vacant WBO International Featherweight Championship. Bautista fights out of the world famous ALA Boxing Gym of Cebu City Philippines. Home of WBO World Light Flyweight Champion Donnie Nietes and numerous world ranked top ten boxers.

Lopez: Luis, how is the training going for Ruiz?

Gonzalez: The training is going very good, Daniel had a good training camp. We trained for over two months for this fight. We are ending camp this week and arriving to the Philippines on Monday, Oct. 15.

Lopez: Rey Bautista is ranked 4th in the IBF and 11th in the WBO world featherweight division, is Ruiz ready for this big fight?

Gonzalez: Yes, We have prepared hard for this fight. Ruiz is in the best shape of his life. I never seen him this focused. We have been waiting for this opportunity.

Lopez: How did he get the nickname ?Canerito??

Gonzalez: The town that Ruiz comes from is known in Mexico for sugar cane plantations. He got his nickname from that.

Lopez: You will arrive Monday October 15, is five days enough time to acclimate to the weather in the Philippines?

Gonzalez: The climate in Los Mochis is hot and dry. We will acclimate to the weather in the Philippines. It usually takes 24 hours for the body to adjust to the new time and climate. Ruiz will come to the Philippines in good condition. When we fought in Australia, we had no problem to adjust.

Lopez: Who was the toughest opponent of Ruiz?

Gonzalez: I would have to say Ricardo Castillo, brother of former World Champion Jose Luis Castillo. I knocked him out in the 2nd round to win the WBC Latino Super Featherweight Championship. He is a very good fighter and my team put together a good game plan.

Lopez: Fighting in the country of Bautista and having Filipino judges, do you think you have to win by knockout?

Gonzalez: I heard that Filipino judges are fair. I can?t say that about Canada and Australia.

Lopez: Why, what happened in Canada and Australia?

Gonzalez: We were totally robbed in Canada against Logan McGuiness, the NABA Champion. If you can watch the video, he was totally beaten and you can see how his face after the fight that he took a punishment. The fight in Australia for the IBO World Championship was another shocker. The electricity went out in the Arena and they could not turn it back on. How can a big arena like that not have a generator? Something was fishy there.

Lopez:I can assure you, the venue of your boxing match in Mall of Asia will have generators.

Gonzalez: That is good to hear.

Lopez: Have you seen videos of Bautista on YouTube?

Gonzalez: Yes, and we have studied them. The fights he had with Barerra were good and also with Heriberto Ruiz. The fight he had with Daniel Ponce DeLeon was a classic. Heriberto Ruiz lives in my hometown. He had 2 fights with Bautista. We know what to expect from Bautista.

Lopez: Los Mochis, Mexico is big on the boxing map, who are some good fighters that come from your city?

Gonzalez: Many World Champions, Jorge Arce, Fernando Montiel, Hugo Ruiz, Antonio DeMarco, Hugo Cazarez, Humberto Soto.

Lopez: What can the Filipino boxing fans expect from the style of Ruiz?

Gonzalez: Ruiz hits hard. He will not back down from a fight. He will do his best to win.

Lopez: Any final words for Bautista and the boxing fans of the Philippines?

Gonzalez: We come to the Philippines to win. We will do our best to win by KNOCKOUT! We have trained for that and we have trained to go the 12 rounds. I invite all the Mexican and Latino fans in the Philippines to come watch this fight. I will take the Championship back to Mexico.
