BALAMBAN,CEBU ? Blue chip prospect ?Prince? Albert Pagara relied on his sharp jab and crisp combinations to turn back veteran Marvin Tampus by unanimous decision. Tampus, a former PABA champion, was competitive in the early rounds but Pagara stepped up his body attack and also scored well with his head shots.

Sensing he was falling behind past the half way mark, Tampus charged forward and used his veteran smarts to close the distance and land hard hooks. But Pagara weathered the storm with good lateral movement and continued to land unimpeded counters every time Tampus missed. Pagara hurt Tampus on several occasions but the Bato,Leyte native stayed on his feet until the final bell. Tampus finished the fight with welts and swelling around his right eye.
Pagara, who traces his roots to Maasin City, Southern Leyte, won handily by scores of 100-90, 99-92 and 99-91.

Pagara also keeps his unbeaten streak at 13-0, 9 KO?s while Tampus drops to 27-16-2, 18 KO?s.
VALERO SHOCKS MACAHILIG
In a stunner, Gerpaul ?TI Yamagata? Valero of the TI Cebu-Flores Boxing Gym, won by TKO in the first round against ALA Gym prospect Mharjun Macahilig.
Macahilig was the early aggressor and landed hard body shots. But Valero caught with two hooks to the jaw and Macahilig crashed to the canvas. He got up on wobbly legs but signalled he wanted to fight. Valero pounced and sent Macahilig down two more times prompting Referee Ben Necessario to stop the bout at 2:45.
Last April, Macahilig suffered a knockout loss to Arden Diale. But he was back on the winning track going into this bout; Macahilig (15-3, 9 KO?s) stopped Jovel Romasasa in four rounds.
Valero (12-13-3, 8 KO?s) was a fighter with a losing record before he was rehabilitated by trainer Brix Flores and blossomed under the GMA TV Boxing reality show ?Buhay Boksingero? where he topped the superflyweight division.

For the undercard matches :
Mark Vincent Bernaldez used an educated left hook to batter southpaw Albert Villacampa. The sores read 60-54 on all three judges.
Jojo ?Flash? Intor brought his comedy act to western Cebu and engaged Takaomi Naoma in a fiery rematch. Intor had beaten Naoma by points at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel last month but this time the Japanese wanted no part of Intor?s performance and seriously pressed the issue.
But Intor had the crowd roaring with laughter with his uncanny ability to clown around and still land enough punches to stay in the fight. Intor also won by scores of 40-36, 40-37 and 40-37.
Jason Pagara and Jimrex Jaca also had a three round exhibition sparring session to promote Pinoy Pride XVII which has the elder Pagara defending his WBO International jr.welterweight title against Miguel Antoine of Barbados at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Roma Rate won by TKO in the sixth and final round against Sherwin Caday. Rate used rib-rattling hooks mixed with hard head shots and sent Caday down in the 4th round. Caday was bleeding from the nose and receiving punishment in the 6th prompting referee Teddy Alivio to halt the bout at 1:27.
Crispin Parba won by TKO in the fourth and final round against Jeffrey Segara. Parba knocked Segara down in the 3rd round after he dropped his guard for a split second, mistaking the ten second signal for the final bell. He was wobbly when he got up and still on unsteady legs in the 4th. Referee Ben Necessario stopped the fight at the 45 second mark.
