SIQUIJOR - Rajah Renoel Pael of the Princesa Bulakna Resort of Maria, Siquijor defended his Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) bantamweight title in front of his hometown fans with an impressive ten round unanimous decision win over Arlon ?Turbo? Batinggal the main event of the fight card billed as ?BAKBAKAN SA ARAW NG SIQUIJOR?.

Pael worked behind a disciplined game plan, using a sharp left jab to keep the bull strong Batinggal at bay. In the second round, an accidental clash of heads inflicted a cut on Pael's left eyelid and Batinggal was deducted a point. Pael?s trainer Brix Flores managed to stop the bleeding in between rounds.

Pael staggered Batinggal on several occasions with crisp one-two combinations but the challenger managed to survive and kept the pressure to land hard hooks of his own. Pael's lateral movement and superior boxing skills made him pile up a huge lead. Another accidental head butt inflicted a cut on Pael's right eyebrow in the tenth and final round and another point was deducted from Batinggal.
The scorecards read 99-89, 97-92 and 99-89. Pael remained unbeaten at 10W-0L-1D, 4 KO's. Batinggal, who hails from Butuan City, drops to his fifth career loss with six wins, three by knockout.

For the undercard bouts - Richard Rosales of Bohol beat Junior Salvador of the Phil-Aust Gym by unanimous decision. The scores 79-73, 77-75 and 79-74.

Alvin Aresgado of Siquijor and Michael Beron of Bohol fought to a two round technical draw after an accidental clash of heads inflicted cuts on both boxers. The cut on Aresgado's left eyelid was deeper and bleeding profusely prompting the early end to the bout.

Bryan Samson of Siquijor beat Jerome Baja of the Phil-Aust gym by unanimous decision in the four round opening bout. The scorecards read 40-36, 39-37 and 40-36.

The fights were held at the Siquijor Capitol grounds last Saturday and supervised by Rolando Mendoza and Celso Miranda of GAB-Cebu. The boxing event also featured amateur contests between local standouts and was promoted by RWS Promotions and sponsored by the Siquijor Provincial Government.
