In an email sent to this writer, hard hitting Mexican Rosbel ?Lobito? Montoya has officially ?RETIRED? from the squared circle. Montoya said, ?It is time to hang-up the leather gloves after my recent disappointing loss to Pagara and move on to training amateur and professional boxers.? The ?Little Wolf?, who had a legendary fight in Pinoy Pride VIII in 2011 in Cebu City, the boxing capital of the Philippines, when he totally out foxed the hard hitting Jason ?El Nino? Pagara in a memorable match that is still being talked about in the local boxing scene.
The rematch was inevitable, and when it finally happened this past August 18 at the Pinoy Pride XV, the hard hitting Pagara was in top form and totally annihilated the game Montoya. Montoya was in tip top form, chiseled body ready to show what he was made of. It didn?t happen, as Pagara was in his world class style, as he simply took apart Montoya with precision, hard body shots and captured the prestigious WBO International Light Welterweight Championship.
Pinoy Pride XV was the highest ratings bonanza of ABS-CBN of all the entire Pinoy Pride series and eclipsed the ratings of two world title fights. The Philippine boxing fans knew that event was going to be a classic. This was the first Pinoy Pride event that had Jason Pagara as the main event, and he showed it that night, he can carry a Pinoy Pride card.
Montoya had lost his last two fights by knockout, time to reflect what is next for him. Montoya said, ?I have two brothers, Daniel Montoya, a light welterweight with a record of (23-3-14 KO) ready to challenge Jason Pagara or Jimrex Jaca and Eduardo Montoya, who fights at 122 and 126 lb., with a record of (20-2-14 KO).?
In this unpredictable sport of boxing, boxers are always retiring after a terrible loss, and then they regroup and fight again. The boxing fans of Cebu and the entire Philippines love and appreciate the skills of Rosbel Montoya, maybe he can come back out of retirement, and challenge Jimrex Jaca and make way for his brother Daniel to go against the hard hitting savvy fighter in Jason Pagara.
Could the future bring, Pinoy Pride XVIII, MONTOYA BROTHERS INVADE CEBU? That would be a classic.
The boxing fans of Cebu and the entire Philippines wish Rosbel Montoya a happy retirement.
