PINOY PRIDE XV: A SWEEP FOR THE PHILIPPINES (COMPLETE RESULTS)

CEBU CITY ? It was a different Jason ?El Ni?o? Pagara (29-2, 18 KO's) who faced Rosbel ?Lobito? Montoya (36W-5L-1 D, 30 KO's) Saturday night. I?m guessing the ALA gym trainers also discovered the Mexican boxer?s weakness during their preparation for this rematch.
Pagara knocked Montoya down in the opening round with a series of head and body shots. Montoya got up and countered well in the next round.
But Pagara already found his target. Body shots decked Montoya twice in the third but he still managed to last and land well placed punches in the subsequent rounds.

In the sixth round, hard hooks to the body made Montoya stagger and turn his back. Referee Atty. Danrex Tapdasan called a halt to the bout at the 1:41 mark. It was sweet revenge for Pagara and he also won the WBO International light welterweight title.
Rising superbantam Genesis Servania administers a thorough beating on the visiting Mexican Jorge Pazos.
Genesis ?Azukal? Servania (19W-0L, 6 KO's) gave the tough and gutsy Jorge ?El Feroz? Pazos (21W-4L, 14 KO's) a one sided beating for twelve rounds in their battle for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific super bantamweight title.
An overhand right sent Pazos down in the opening round. The Mexican went on the back foot but Servania continued to land concussive shots.
Past the halfway mark, bruises started to form on Pazos? face. Pazos went down in the eighth after receiving solid hooks to the body. He got up again but was decked by a short right to the jaw in the 11th round.
The Mexican again managed to get up and finished the fight but still lost by 118-107 on all three judges.
Pazos was brought to the hospital for observation. He never lost consciousness and as of this writing remained coherent. We salute Jorge Pazos for his courage but the aftermath of this bout highlights the inherent risks of the sport. Mike Lopez, who assisted the Mexicans in their corner, told this writer that he even signaled to Pazos not to get up after the second knockdown but he courageously stood up; The Mexican camp also wanted to continue fighting.
We hope and pray that Pazos will continue his recovery.

Jaca makes a successful comeback at the Waterfront Hotel Saturday.
Jimrex ?The Executioner? Jaca (40W-6L-3D, 20 KO's) came back from a long lay-off and stopped Angel ?Arcangel? Martinez (18W-3L-1D, 13 KO's) in the 8th and final round. Martinez was knocked down in the 3rd when he walked into the southpaw Jaca?s powerful left.
In the 7th, Jaca knocked Martinez down again with body shots and finished the job in the 8th with another hard left. Referee Teddy Alivio signaled the end at 2:59.
For the other undercard matches:
?Prince? Albert Pagara remained unbeaten and won a lopsided unanimous verdict over Alvin Makiling. A right to the temple made Makiling stagger and only the ropes held him up; Referee Samson Libres made the right call and initiated the count. Pagara tried to end it on several occasions but Makiling managed to hear the final bell. The scores 80-71, 79-72, 79-72.

Mark Vincent Bernaldez decked Joash Apericio twice enroute to a unanimous decision win. The scorecards read 57-54, 58-53, 57-54. Juren Labordo beat Powell Balaba by unanimous decision. The three judges all scored it 40-36.
Crowd favorite Jojo 'Flash' Intor vitorious over Japanese Takaomi Naoma.
Jun ?Flash? Intor beat Japanese Takaomi Naoma in four hilarious rounds. Both boxers suffered cuts due to head butts but managed to entertain the audience with their antics Scores 38-36, 38-36 and 39-35.
In the opening bout of the evening, JP Artieda won by unanimous decision over Hector Rojoca. All three judges had it 40-36.
PINOY PRIDE XV : Philippines vs Mexico ?THE REMATCH? was held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. Supervising the WBO fights at ringside was WBO Asia-Pacific chief Leon Panoncillo. Also attending the event were GAB Chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon and GAB Chief of Boxing Division Dr. Nasser Cruz.
