Boxing fans in Mandaluyong City will get to see an all-Pinoy battle for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight title this August 16 when Vincent ?Popeye? Palicte (14-3-1, 7 KOs) squares off against Frederix Rodriguez (8-2-1, 6 KOs) at the Mandaluyong Gym. Breaking into the WBO rankings will be on the minds of the protagonists.
This is the belt relinquished by WBO number one contender AJ "Bazooka" Banal when the deal was sealed for his bout against WBO No. 2 bantamweight Pungluang Sor Singyu of Thailand for the vacant WBO bantamweight world crown on October 20 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Palicte vs Rodriguez undercard bouts gives hard core fight fans a chance to size up other prospects.
Jerwin Ancajas (13-1-1, 5 KOs) will fight John Mark Bautista (10-6-1, 4 KOs) in a 10-round super flyweight match. Ancajas will be eager to bounce back after he suffered his first defeat in a tough majority decision loss to another talented prospect, Mark Anthony Geraldo last March in Cebu.
Undefeated Aston Palicte (9-0-0, 7 KOs), Vincent?s younger brother, will face by Mark Joseph Costa (4-5-2, 1 KO), known for being the last opponent of the late Karlo Maquinto. Jerson Luzarito (6-1-1) fights Marzon Cabilla (9-7) in another ten rounder.
Reigning Philippine junior welterweight champion Adones ?The Undertaker? Cabalquinto (12-0-0, 8 KOs) of Top Contender Boxing Gym will engage in a 10-round non-title fight against Jaypee Ignacio of Elorde Gilmore, Quezon City. Cabalquinto gave Cebu fans a ring war to remember when he beat Dan Nazareno last March by twelve round unanimous decision at the Lapu-lapu City Hoops Dome.
A special attraction will be the fight between the young and unbeaten Joebert Alvarez (10-0-0, 4 KOs) against the tough veteran Nelson Llanos (22-28-3, 9 KO?s). Alvarez was one of the standouts in the boxing reality show ?Buhay Boksingero?.
This boxing event will be covered by GMA TV Network. General admission for this event is FREE TO THE PUBLIC.
