Promoter Sammy Gello-ani has informed philboxing that the International Boxing Fedefation (IBF) has declared Interim champion Johnriel Casimero as the regular IBF Jr. Flyweight Champion of the World after regular champion Ulises Solis has been declared by his doctor unfit to train for the next 3 to 4 months, hence cannot make the mandatory defense of his belt on or before October 30 as mandated.

The letter from the IBF Championship chairman Lindsey Tucker stated that based on the information given by Solis? doctor, it is the IBF?s determination that Solis will be unable to defend the IBF Jr.

Flyweight Title on or before October 30, 2012. Therefore, effective immediately the IBF declares that Johnriel Casimero the new IBF Jr. Flyweight Champion.

Solis broke his jaw when he was involved in a street altercation against fellow boxer Saul Alvarez last year.

The 22 year old Casimero (16W-2L, 10 KO's) won the interim title last February when he stopped Argentina's Luis Alberto Lazarte in the 10th round in a fight held in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The win was marred by an ugly ring riot that went viral on the internet. Fans attacked Casimero, trainer Cristopher "Pingping' Tepora and Promoter Sammy Gello-ani inside the ring minutes after Casimero scored the win.

Last October 2011, Gello-ani promised that his SGG Promotions would produce another world champion for the Philippines in 2012. He said this during the presscon for Marvin Sonsona?s comeback fight against Carlos Jacobo.

Casimero being awarded the regular world title is the fulfillment of this promise.
