AS MARTIN CASTILLO LOSES, PENALOSA CALLS OUT ARCE

Mexican Martin Castillo lost his WBA superfly title today to Japanese Nobuo Nashiro on a tenth-round technical knockout, prompting former WBC champ Gerry Penalosa to call out another Mexican for a fight possibly underneath the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales showdown on November 18.

Penalosa now wants to fight the hugely popular Jorge 'Travierso' Arce, following the loss of Castillo at the hands of Nashiro. The fight was stopped in the tenth round due to cuts suffered by Castillo.

Arce, a stablemate of Erik Morales, holds a record of 44 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw with 34 knockouts, and holds the WBC interim flyweight title, although he plans to move up in weight for bigger fights.

Had Castillo won, the plan was to pit him against Penalosa on November 18 for what would have been another Filipino-Mexican war.

"I want Arce," said Penalosa when told yesterday that Castillo had lost. The Filipino former champ also rattled off the names of WBO superfly champ Fernando Montiel and IBF champ Luis Perez as opponents he wanted to face should Arce choose not to fight him.

The 33-year-old Penalosa is coming off a hard-earned unanimous decision win over Mexican Tomas Rojas last July 2 underneath the Pacquiao-Larios tiff.
