PE?ALOSA, JR KO?S BUCKIE IN NINE (PHOTOS)

MANDAUE CITY ? Dodie Boy Pe?alosa,Jr sailed into uncharted waters when he went past the fifth round for the first time in his career. But he still had too much of everything to eventually finish matters in the ninth round.
Alex Buckie of Indonesia went into a defensive shell in the early rounds as Pe?alosa landed at will with his jab and one-two combinations. In the 4th, Dodie Jr sent Buckie down with a barrage of rib rattling hooks but the Indonesian got up only to go down again from another fusillade.
The second knockdown woke up Buckie and he decided to punch back. He surprised Pe?alosa when he charged forward but Buckie got a point taken for holding and hitting on the back of the neck.
Pe?alosa became more tentative as he answered the bell for the fifth round for the first time in his career. In the 8th, Buckie stunned Dodie,Jr with a right and sent him on the back foot. Pe?alosa looked winded but in the ninth, Pe?alosa?s left straight found a way into Buckie?s jaw sending him down for the count.

Referee Atty. Danrex Tapdasan reached ten at the 2:32 mark. This was the ninth straight stoppage win for the unbeaten Pe?alosa,Jr since the start of his pro career. Buckie, who once challenged for a PABA title, drops to 13W-26L-6D, 7 KO?s.
Philippine featherweight champion Michael Fare?as had a tough time against Jayson Egera in their ten round non-title bout. Fare?as built an early lead in a tactical struggle. Both boxers landed well placed punches but Egera surged in the second half of the bout. Fare?as won a close split decision with scores of 95-93 on two judges? scorecards and a third judge scoring for Egera at 96-92.
Dave Pe?alosa knocked out Jumar Torreon in the second round of a four rounder. Dave battered Torreon on the ropes, sending him crashing to the canvas and was counted out at 1:54. This is Dave?s third pro win with two KO?s. Two years ago, Torreon lost to Dodie,Jr by first round knockout.
Joebert Alvarez beat Renren Tesorio by unanimous decision in a battle of two unbeaten prospects. Both boxers started this fight at 9W-0L. It was a tense back and forth slugfest in the early rounds. Tesorio was deducted a point in the 4th for a headbutt that inflicted a cut on Alvarez? left eyelid.
Alvarez took the sixth with more accurate left straights and landed the quality punches in the endgame. The scores read 76-75, 79-73 and 78-73. Alvarez was the 2011 Buhay Boksingero lt.flyweight division winner.
For the other supporting bouts:
Rommel Banquirigo won by technical decision in the 5th round over Raymund Empic. Banquirigo scored a knockdown in the opening round and two points were deducted from Empic for low blows in the subsequent rounds. A clash of heads caused a deep cut on Banquirigo?s cheekbone and Dr. Jose Unabia recommended the fight stoppage.
Aldrin Guara beat Jerome Casas by split decision. Two judges had it 58-56 for Guara and one had it 59-56 for Casas.
Jack ?Golden Boy? Tepora knocked out Raymund Fermin in the 4th and final round. Fermin walked into a solid right hook and was counted out at 1:36.
Sherwin Caday beat Alex Belonguel by 4 round unanimous decision. The scores ? 40-36, 39-37 and 39-37.
Jun Ryan Quimbo knocked down Jayson Borleo in the 3rd and cruised to a 4 round unanimous decision win. All three judges had it 39-37. Margarito Moyo won by unanimous decision against Roel Sumabong with scores of 39-37 for all three judges and John Kenan Villaflor beat Sherwin Boquecosa by majority decision. The scores ? 38-38, with two judges giving Villaflor the nod at 39-37.
The fights were held Saturday at the oven hot Mandaue City Sports Complex and promoted by GerryPens Promotions.
