Philippine superflyweight champion Marvin Mabait (16W-0L-2D,10 KO's) is in the final stages of his preparation for his April 22 title defense against Marco Demecillo Singwangcha (15W-0L-1D, 11KO's). Mabait, who is a mainstay of the Blue Stallion stable of Zamboanga, spent Wednesday afternoon at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Mabait spoke to philboxing after his workout and talked about his chances against Demecillo.
?This will be a great fight. We have different styles, I am a patient boxer, while he is aggressive, always goes forward.? Mabait said, ?I have prepared well and I have a good chance of beating him this time.?
Mabait and Demecillo faced each other as curtain raisers last January 31, 2009 at the Cebu Coliseum and the fight ended in a four round majority draw. Mabait knocked down Demecillo in the opening round but Mabait was cut due to a clash of heads in the second round. Both boxers are still undefeated.
?I was lucky I knocked him down the first time we fought. I am not thinking about knocking him out or knocking him down again. But I have noticed that nothing has changed in his style since we first met.? Mabait added.
The 24 year old Mabait also talked about his last fight here in Cebu, a 7th round TKO win over Aljun Salogaol last June 2011: ?I know the fans were bored the last time I fought here because my opponent and I were playing the waiting game for most of the fight. Now, I expect Marco to be aggressive so this will be an exciting fight.?
The 21 year old Demecillo uses the surname Singwangcha as homage to his sponsor, Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha. He fights out of the Rex ?Wakee? Salud stable of Cebu. After the fateful draw against Mabait, Demecillo steadily built a fearsome reputation as a power puncher. Last October, Demecillo stopped Louie Bantigue in nine rounds in Liloan, Cebu.
This Sunday fight card will be held at the Mactan Shrine in Lapu-lapu City and offered free to the public. The event is sponsored by Mayor Paz Radaza and Congressman Arturo Radaza.
The undercards will feature Fernando Ocon against Jay-R Estremos (10 rounds), Marlou Sandoval Singwangcha vs. Jonathan Ricablanca (8 rounds), Jayson Redondo Singwangcha will fight with Jayvee Alipio (8 rounds), TI Yamagata Valero vs Zaldy Aroa (8 rounds), Rajah Renoel Pael vs Joel Ventual (8 rounds), Rodel Wenceslao vs Sesustener Llanera Singwangcha (6 rounds), Junior Salvador vs Lyndel Radoc Singwangcha (6 rounds), Ardie Boyosi vs Junmar Sahay (4 rounds) and Ranel Pasunting vs Kenny Demecillo (4 rounds).
