IT'S LOVELIER THE SECOND TIME AROUND

La Vegas, Nevada - Sugar Shane Mosley knocked out Fernando Vargas in the 6th round of a scheduled 12 rounder sealing his show of dominance amongst the three best California 154 pound boxers. Mosley beat Oscar de la Hoya twice. He wanted nothing better than to duplicate the feat over Fernando Vargas whom he defeated a few months back via a 10 round TKO brought about by a damage in Vargas’ left eye that prevented him from seeing with both eyes.

After that fight Vargas never admitted total defeat. He claimed had the fight been allowed to go further he could have beaten Mosley “even with just one eye”.

Last night, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the results were without any doubt. On round 6th, Mosley hit Vargas with a booming left hand and Vargas went down to the canvas. Vargas, even with two good eyes did not see that punch coming. Though clearly hurt, Vargas attempted to get up but fell back once before he managed to be on his feet. Referee Kenny Bayless wiped off his gloves took a look at his eyes, asked him if he was okay. With Vargas answering in the affirmative, Bayless determined that he could continue, so he allowed the fight to go on. While Vargas was on the floor, Mosley was celebrating his feat by climbing the ropes and raising his hands in victory.

When the fight was resumed, Mosley did not waste time and proceeded to hammer Vargas with a continuous power shots leaving Bayless no other choice but stop to the fight.

In the early part of the fight, Vargas did not seem to be the same ferocious fighter. He was beaten to the gun by his lighter opponent. From our vantage point it seemed that Mosley was bent in setting him up for a big punch that could knock Vargas out. That indeed was what he did. Judging from the ring celebration of the Mosley camp, this victory was without any question, lovelier the second time around.
