SGG NEXT PROSPECTS XIII: OCAMPO KO?S HAYA, LABAO KO?S SOLMIANO

Cebu City ? Jose Ocampo scored a brutal 4th round technical knockout win over Weng Haya in their battle for the interim WBO Asia-Pacific jr.lightweight title Sunday night at the Cebu Coliseum. In the opening round, a clash of heads inflicted a cut on the top of Haya?s forehead and a small cut on Ocampo?s eyebrow. This ignited a series of furious exchanges for the next couple of rounds.
The southpaw Ocampo fired one powerful volley after another and knocked Haya down twice in the third. He continued his furious assault and Haya was reeling at the end of the round.
In between rounds, Referee Danrex Tapdasan called ring physician Dr. Jose Unabia to check on Haya in his corner.
Haya answered the bell for the 4th round but a stunning left cross sent him again prompting the stoppage at the 2:26 mark.

Labao KOs Solmiano.
Ciso Morales connects against Apericio.
Rey Labao won the Philippine lightweight title with a spectacular first round technical knockout win over Jay Solmiano. An hard unimpeded left sent Solmiano crashing to the canvas. He got up but was on wobbly legs prompting the referee to stop the fight at the 2:37 mark.
Ciso ?Kid Terrible? Morales won by TKO over Joash Apericio in the 4th round. Morales had trouble figuring out Apericio in the early rounds. An accidental headbutt in the third inflicted a cut on Morales? forehead and a point was deducted from Apericio.
In the 4th, Morales sent Apericio down with a low blow that was ruled accidental. Apericio was given five minutes to continue but he was unable to get up on time awarding Morales the win.
In the other undercard matches:
Virgilio ?Maton? Silvano cornered Roque Lauro and landed an unanswered barrage to the head in the 3rd round prompting the referee to call a halt to the bout at the 1:53 mark.
Jack ?Golden Boy? Tepora had a successful debut as a pro against John Edu Torbiso. Tepora exploited his height and reach advantage to land head shots in the first round. Torbiso decided not the answer the bell for the second round and Tepora was awarded the TKO win.
Tepora is a former ABAP National amateur boxing gold medallist and one of the recipients of a citation during the Cebu Sportswriters Awards last Saturday.
Jessie Cris Rosales knocked out Elmer Colve in only 39 seconds of the first round using a body shot.
Rennel Fletchero won by majority decision over Marlo Pasigna after six rounds. The scores 57-57 and two judges scored 58-56 for Fletchero. In the opening bout of the evening, Jaspher Buhat beat Jovan Munoz by majority decision in a four rounder. The scorecards read 38-38, with two judges for Buhat at 40-36 and 39-37.
The bouts were sanctioned and supervised by the Games and Amusements Board of Cebu. The thirteenth edition of The Next Prospects was a ?free to the public? Thanksgiving offering of Sammy Gello-ani?s SGG Promotions for the victory and safe return of Team Casimero.
