?GORRES IS THE BEST BOXER I HAVE FACED? ? OTIENO

?The soft steps of a leopard is not a sign of weakness.? ?African proverb.

Kenyan boxer Nick Otieno spoke softly during the PINOY PRIDE XII press conference held today at the Bohol Tropics Resort. But what he said did not surprise anyone.

?I have fought many fights. I am not here to entertain. I am a journeyman, I go to my opponent?s homeland,? he said, ?Z Gorres was the best boxer that I have faced. That was the only fight where I can say I was not robbed.?

Otieno (21W-7L, 9 KO?s) lost to Gorres by unanimous decision in 2008. He also owns an eighth round knockout win over another Filipino, Rexon Flores.

Otieno?s statement reminds us of what Philippine boxing lost when Gorres suffered the career-ending brain injury at the hands of Luis Melendez in Las Vegas. Gorres has been undergoing rehab and it would be a very interesting reunion with a former opponent if he decides to visit Bohol for this boxing card.

Nicodemus Otieno Okudo will be fighting another rising star from the ALA Gym, Genesis ?Azukal? Servania on the undercard of Rey Bautista vs Genaro Garcia this Saturday at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City.

The unbeaten Servania (16W-0L, 5 KO?s) is on a roll, beating two Mexican boxers back to back ? Gerson Guerrero and Marcos Cardenas. He will be facing an African boxer for the first time.
