AGUELO OUTGUNS BRANZUELA, RETAINS PBF TITLE

Lapu-lapu City ? Adonis ?TI Yamagata? Aguelo of Maasin City won a hard earned ten round unanimous decision against Renan Branzuela of Bukidnon in the main event of "Binakbakay sa Barangay" at the Gym of Barangay Basak in Lapu-lapu City on Sunday.
Branzuela employed a stick and move routine, making Aguelo miss in the first two rounds. But Aguelo eventually managed to cut the ring off and found his range in the third round. Aguelo punished Branzuela with hooks to the body and head every time he pinned the challenger on the ropes.
Past the midway point, Branzuela continued to fight on the back foot as Aguelo piled up the points.
The scorecards read 96-94, 97-93 and 97-93. Aguelo successfully retained his Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) featherweight title. Romnick Magos won by unanimous decision against Roemart ?TI Yamagata? Sentillas in a blood soaked ten round flyweight bout. A clash of heads in the opening round inflicted a cut on Magos? right eyebrow. This cost Sentillas a point and Magos attacked him like a wounded animal. They traded hard shots in the subsequent rounds, ignoring the pleas of their cornermen for defense. The fierce exchanges sent the packed gym in a frenzy.

Magos pulled away after the middle rounds as he continued to press despite the persistently seeping blood from the cut. The scores ? 98-91, 97-92 and 97-92.
Gerpaul "TI Yamagata" Valero won by TKO against Erwin Pulvera. Valero sent Pulvera down twice in the 3rd round prompting Referee Tony Pesons to stop the bout at the 1:38 mark.
TI Yamagata Masashi got a rude Cebu welcome from Junior Salvador, who used roughhousing tactics to prevent the Japanese from scoring effective punches. The six round bout was fought mostly on even terms but Salvador proved to be steadier down the stretch and got the majority decision nod. The scorecards read ? 57-57 and two judges had it 58-56 for Salvador.
Rajah Renoel Pael overcame the sheer ruggedness of Anthony Galigao and won by unanimous decision. They traded hard hooks in the opening round but Pael suffered a flash knockdown. Pael rallied and boxed in the second but Galigao continued to go forward and engage at close quarters. Pael landed the cleaner blows in the endgame, especially the last round. The scores ? 78-73, 77-74 and 76-75.
In the opening pro bout of the evening, Ardie "TI Yamagata" Boyose knocked out Reymund Fermin in the third round. A series of quick combinations sent Fermin crashing into the neutral corner and he stayed there until Referee Teddy Alivio reached the ten count 27 second mark.
The fights were supervised by Celso Miranda, Rolando Mendoza and Glen Agena of GAB-Cebu. This boxing event was promoted by Akira Sato of TI Yamagata Promotions with the cooperation of Barangay Captain Isabelito "Belong" Darnayla and the barangay council of Brgy. Basak and Rep. Luigi Quisumbing (6th District ?Cebu).
Seen among the spectators were former world champions Katsunari Takayama of Japan and Rodel Mayol of Mandaue City. Also mixing with the spectators were Cristopher ?Pingping? Tepora, who is the trainer of Johnriel Casimero, and pro boxers Marvin Tampus, Bobbie Sentillas, Marco Demecillo Singwangcha and Marlon Tapales.
