PUTTING SALUDAR AGAINST VILORIA IS EASIER SAID THAN DONE

After apparently witnessing the demolition of Giovanni Segura by the current WBO Flyweight champion, Brian Viloria last week in Pasig City, Cotobato del Sur?s Froilan Saludar apparently saw something that made him feel that he can now take on the ?Hawaiian Punch.?
I don?t think he saw some flaws in Viloria. But I am sure he saw the potential cash that can be made fighting a big name like Viloria.
So, he appears to be calling out Viloria.
Well as they say, every boxer has a ?puncher?s chance? to win a fight anytime.
But for Froilan Saludar, he may be wishing for more than he can chew. Even with his 13-0-1 (10 KO) record.
There is no doubt Saludar is good. In fact, he has a minor title to prove that- the WBO Asian Pacific Flyweight Belt.
But that belt does not carry a huge weight enough to merit Saludar a world title shot against Viloria. He is not yet on the same level as Viloria.
And it does not matter if he is now the WBO No. 1 rank challenger.
Saludar best clean out the region first. He must prove himself to be the best of the region before being given a chance to prove that he is best in the world.
Why he has not even defended the title he won last August.
Saludar has yet to beat well-heeled boxers in the region and until he does that, he should remain in the queue.
Besides, it would not be too easy to find a financier to sponsor the event if he takes on Viloria.
I am sure not even Solar Sports with its deep pockets will take that gamble. And, for sure no one will pick up the fight outside of the country either,
Saludar does not have the name yet to pull in a lot of people to fill out an arena. So who may be brave enough to financially back up a world title fight with him as a head-liner?
Viloria has already a big name recognition and yet he was hard pressed to fill out even the Ynares Stadium. And, he was fighting a well known Mexican ex-world champion!
Could you just imagine how he will fare if he fights Saludar in the Philippines? They maybe fighting in front of hundreds of people, not thousands.
While it may sound tantalizing as suggested by Philboxing?s Chito Katangkatang for a world title fight to happen between two Filipinos, in this case I beg to disagree.
It may have some appeal in paper, but for the business part, it sounds to be a losing proposition.
Thus, putting it together maybe easier said than done.
Therefore, I suggest Saludar challenge Milan Melindo of ALA Boxing Gym.
Now, that?s a fight I would love to see.
The fight would unite the WBO Asian Pacific and the WBO Intercontinental flyweight titles.
I am also positive that if the fight happens at Cebu, the promoters can pick any place in that great City and it would be filled.
There is one catch though.
WBO may veto the idea because it will interfere with the financial schemes they have associated with the
creation all the regional ?belts? that generate revenue for them.
Therefore, they may not want to ?unite? the Asian Pacific with the Intercontinental belt.
