BAUTISTA KO?S MENDOZA, SERVANIA AND FUENTES DELIVER RESOUNDING WINS

Lapu-lapu City ? In a blood and guts performance that was reminiscent of the great ring battles more than half a century ago, Rey ?BoomBoom? Bautista engaged Mexican knockout artist Miguel Angel Mendoza in a spine-tingling exchange of power shots that brought the thousands who packed the Hoops Dome to their feet.
Bautista sent Mendoza down twice in the opening round with short quick lefts. Mendoza ended the round with a bloodied nose but stormed back in the second; he had Bautista reeling on two occasions as he pounded the body and head.
In a hair-raising third round, they traded hard shots but Mendoza got the worse of the exchange as he suffered a gash on his left eyelid. The give and take action was halted in the 4th as a low blow sent Mendoza to the canvas. He was given enough time to recuperate and he continued his assault as he got up.
Blood continued to our from Mendoza?s cut in the fifth, worsened by a clash of heads. Bautista?s face was turning red as welts started to form. At the end of the round, it seemed the Mexican corner was ready to throw in the towel.
In a bizarre incident, as Referee Atty. Danrex Tapdasan checked in to see if Mendoza wanted to go on, he was rudely greeted by one of the Mexican cornermen, who tried to shove him with an elbow as they indicated that their fighter would continue. Referee Tapdasan ejected the cornerman out of the ring.
In the sixth, it was Mendoza?s turn to land low blows. He had trouble seeing due to the cut but Mendoza still tried to advance. But a left hook from Bautista sent him down and Referee Tapdasan reached the count of ten at the 1:20 mark.
Bautista, who finished the fight with welts on his cheeks, was leading on the three scorecards at 50-43 at the time of the stoppage. This was Mendoza?s first career loss. He had previously scored KO?s in all of his 17 wins.
Bautista, who hails from Candijay, Bohol, inches closer towards a world title shot. In a battle of hard hitters, ?BoomBoom? was the better catcher.

GENESIS RISING
Genesis ?Azukal? Servania outfought Marcos Cardenas of Mexico in a battle of unbeaten prospects. The opening round started as a chess game of jabs and feints until a Servania left hook caught Cardenas and sent him down. Servania staggered Cardenas in the second round with a left hook followed by a right uppercut
The Mexican decided to use his height and reach advantage and fight from a distance but a right cross from servania in the 4th sent him down again. Cardenas hung tough and chose to pick his spots but the Bacolod City native still finished strong. The scores 98-90, 97-91 and 97-91. This win is the second straight for Servania against a Mexican opponent.

ROCKY HAMMERS THOR
Rocky Fuentes of Mambaling, Cebu City won by technical knockout in the second round against Lookdiaw ?Thor? Tor Buamas of Thailand. A quick left hook sent Buamas down in the 2nd and Fuentes followed it up with a series of sledgehammer hooks sending the Thai down for the second time. He got up on wobbly legs prompting the stoppage at the 2:55 mark.

JAKOSALEM WINS OPBF CROWN
Romeo Jakosalem of Bohol won a lopsided twelve round unanimous decision over South Korean Pan Soo Kim in their fight for the vacant OPBF superlighweight title. Jakosalem fought in spurts but landed enough hard shots to cause a gradual swelling around the Korean?s right eye as early as the second round.

Sensing that the fight was in danger of being stopped at the end of the 8th, the Korean fought hard and took the next two rounds. But Jakosalem?s ring smarts made him pick the right time to unload. The scores ? 117-110, 119-113 and 118-109.
RESULTS OF PRELIM BOUTS:
Roma Rate won by unanimous decision against Randy Gomez. The scorecards read 59-55, 60-54 and 60-54. Mark Acub won by unanimous decision over Ryan Maano. Maano was knocked down in the dying second of the 6th and final round. The scores 59-54 for all three judges.
Mark Vincent Bernaldez won by 4th round TKO over Ruben Baldoz. A brutal volley sent Baldoz down in his own corner; the fight was stopped at the 1:22.
Ralph Lulu and Rodel Wenceslao fought to a six round split draw. The scorecards read 56-56, 57-55 Lulu and 57-55 Wenceslao. Arjan Canillas won by unanimous decision over Johnjier Torbiso. Canillas knocked Torbiso down in the second round and that proved to be the winning margin. The scores 38-37 for all three judges. This was the tenth edition of ALA Promotions? PINOY PRIDE series. Among the faces in the crowd were Z Gorres, WBO jr.flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes, AJ ? Bazooka? Banal and Mercito ?No Mercy? Gesta.
