Cebu City ? It was Marcos ?Geraldito? Cardenas? turn to perform a little sabre-rattling when he spoke with the Cebu sportswriters three days before his Pinoy Pride X showdown against Genesis ?Azukal? Servania of the ALA Gym.
Cardenas, who fights out of the Ymas gym of Sonora, Mexico also bared that is real record is 19W-0L-1D, 12 KO?s, seven bouts more than what appears in boxrec. The most famous boxer from that gym, Marcos Geraldo, is his uncle. Geraldo was a national champion and fought the likes of Thomas Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler.
Together with trainer Jesus Edmundo Gaytan, they thanked ALA Promotions for the opportunity to fight here in Cebu.
?We came very well prepared. We came here because ALA Promotions has a good name. We believe on ALA Promotions, we do not think that it is a risk because we don?t believe that we?ll lose.? Gaytan said. ?We are aware of Servania beating Gerson Guerrero. But Cardenas is younger than Guerrero, He is 21 years old, he has youth, his speed and agility will be his asset.?
Gaytan also spoke about the Mexico-Philippines boxing rivalry.
?I have a very good impression of Philippine boxing. It has improved for the past ten years. They rivalry is a sports rivalry, sports is sports. There is high regard for Filipino boxers in Mexico. When the Mexicans fans know that a Mexican is fighting a Filipino, it will be a sports war.?
Cardenas describes himself as a technical fighter. ?I can knock out Servania in any round.? Cardenas emphasized, ?It will be a spectacular fight.? This will be his first overseas outing but he feels no pressure at all.
Cardenas started boxing at 12 years old. He has accumulated a total of 80 fights and was the amateur champion in Sonora. Cardenas also said that his favorite fighter is Miguel Cotto.
?I came here to win. I am aware of Servania?s style, we reviewed him on the internet. It will be a 2-0 sweep for Mexico this Saturday.? Cardenas vowed.
Servania (15W-0L, 5 KO's), who hails from Bacolod City, is also an unbeaten prospect who has shown the versatility to switch from a technical to a more aggressive style.
The press conference was held Wednesday noon at the Mooon Caf? , IT Park, Lahug, Cebu City. The main event of Pinoy Pride X will be the IBF International featherweight title bout between Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista of Bohol versus Miguel Angel Mendoza of Mexico. It will be held this Saturday at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-lapu City.
