A SAD DAY IN OXNARD

They say that what goes around comes around. ?Karma? as some people will call it.
Well tonight that is exactly what happened to the boxers that train at the gym of Robert Garcia at Oxnard, CA.
What karma?
Remember when Pacquiao was training for his fight with Margarito?
Remember how Coach Robert Garcia and Brandon Rios as well as Margarito allegedly mocked Freddie Roach with insensitive jokes?
What was said then may have been intended as jokes and apologies where already issued and accepted. But the fact remains that the jokes were tactless.
Well tonight it all finally came back to the guys from Oxnard.
Brandon Rios of course kept his crown by beating a game Brit, John Murray who followed the rules and came in on the contracted weight limit. But Brandon Rios did not. He came in over the weight limit knowing fully well that his title is at stake and he must make weight.
So it stands the reason that he would have been a lot heavier than Murray at fight night. And, that could have helped in his victory on the ring.
Good to know that Rios lost an additional $20,000 of his purse by coming in overweight. The money went to Murray.
But what was far better was he lost his crown.
Now Rios can no longer brag around anymore saying that he is a champion.
A champion wins and losses his title on top of the ring. Not on the scales.
Losing a title on the scales is utterly stupid. It shows how much disciple is going around the gym. It is not only the fault of the boxer but the trainer as well. Any good trainer worth his salt should know how to talk to his boxer to ensure that he comes in good during the weight in.
The least he could have done is monitor the boxer if the boxer can not do it for himself.
And how about Antonio Margarito?
Well I am not one who would gloat at the misfortunes of others. That is not how my mother raised me.
But I can?t help but feel good about the victory of Miguel Cotto over bad boy Antonio Margarito.
Margarito perhaps deserves the beating he got from Cotto. Most everybody know why.
What a sweet revenge for the good ole Puerto Rican boy!
Margarito should have retired after he lost to Pacquiao. Now another beating pushed him further to the brink.
Hopefully nothing serious happens to his already surgically corrected eye so that he can enjoy his retirement with his family.
It?s now the end of the world for Antonio Margarito. I hope he has enough senses to know that he has passed the fork of the road and now is faced with a dead end.
Robert Garcia in his capacity as a trainer must be man enough to tell Margarito what he may probably refuse to hear. But Garcia must push through and insist that Margarito should retire.
If he does not, Margarito will end up like some one-eyed-pirate.
If Garcia truly cares for Margarito, he should insist that he retires. Money at this point is no longer an issue. Margarito has made a chunk full to go around his lifetime.
