PINOYS SCORE A TRIFECTA AT SAN MANUEL (COMPLETE FIGHT RESULT AND PHOTOS)

Highland, CA:- Manny Pacquiao?s boxers that headlined the MP Promotions/Top Rank presentation Saturday night at the San Manuel Casino in this city scored a trifecta - winning their fights albeit in three different ways.
Richi Mepranum (19-3-1,3KO) beat Rigoberto Casillas (6-7-1,4KO) via respectable unanimous decision. The judges? scores were 79-73, 79-73 and 78-74.
Although Mepranum won his fight with the above scores, many in the crowd were less than satisfied by his performance. ?He should have dominated his opponent?, one pundit whispered to me at ringside. ?The guy is almost a journey man with his 6-7-1, 4 KO record?, he added as he pointed to me the fight card that indicated the fight record of Casillas.
Mepranum demonstrated nice boxing skills. He landed beautiful straights with his left hand and combinations as well. But he did not have the power to put down Casillas who repeatedly came forward and made it a fight.

Rodel Mayol ( 30-5-2, 22KO) on the other hand proved too much for late substitute, Ernie Marquez (9-9-3, 3KO).
Mayol battered Marquez from the get go allowing him little room to show his wares.
He repeatedly hammered him with hard body shots as he chased him all over the ring throwing and landing punches from all angles. He buckled the legs of Marquez in the 4th and hurt him several times in the 2nd and 3rd round. Incredibly, Marquez never kissed the canvas.
Eventually, the fight was stopped by referee Wayne Hedgepith at 2:43 in round no. 4 giving Mayol a TKO victory for his short work. Marquez of course was not too happy of the stoppage which he perceived as too early.
Mayol?s performance earned him a possible spot on the fight card scheduled at the Mandalay Bay on November 11th, the night before Manny Pacquiao tangles with Juan Manuel Marquez. If things fall in the right places, he may even be on the undercard of the big fight itself on November 12th.
Concepcion (R) against Garcia.
Concepcion is victorious.
Bernabe Concepcion (31-4-1, 17KO), in the main event beat a very determined Aaron Garcia( 10-3-2,2KO) to win the WBC Continental Americas Super bantamweight title.
With his two successive losses in his last two fights, Concepcion was in a do or die battle.
A win will revive his chances for greater fights and a loss will do exactly the opposite- the end of his budding career.
Concepcion fought his as he did in his last two fights. He fought in spurts. Sometimes he would attack incessantly and at times he would just cover up giving the very determined Aaron Garcia a chance to hammer him.
Heads banged early in round 8th producing a small cut on the left eyebrow of Garcia which bled a little but was a no factor in the fight.
There were more than a few occasions when Garcia put Concepcion in the brink of defeat. Only Concepcion?s experience kept him from doing down the brink.
What seemed puzzling was why Concepcion appeared to have lost the will to win in the championship rounds. He simply did not produce the output to come up with a convincing victory.
His behavior warrants something more than a mere conversation from his Team. Surely, he was not out of steam.
Could it be a diminishing mental toughness? Could it be because he needs a change of trainers and handlers? Only Concepcion knows. But the sooner that problem is corrected, the better it will be for him.
In the end, Concepcion won via a close split decision. When the score, 96-94, 96-94 and 93-97 were announced, a very large Mexican crowd expressed their discontent by shouting ? Bull shit, bull shit?.
For what ever is was worth, Manny Pacquiao himself showed up during the fight. Pacquiao came up the ring and gave a short talk thanking people for their support. He even addressed the Mexican crowd in Spanish. Thereafter, he disappeared in to the night.
Other results:
Dave Clark, the boxer not the singer, (3-2-0,2KO) a gym rat at the Wildcard Gym won over the winless Santiago Alonzo (0-5-0). Poor Alonzo was hammered by the Clark in all of the three rounds they fought. When the bell sounded to begin the 4th, Alonzo was in no condition to continue giving Clark a TKO on the 4th round.

Abigail Castaneda of Santa Ana, CA won her fight debut over another debutant, Guadalupe Gutierrez of La Habra, CA. The scores were all 40-36.

In a battle of heavyweights undefeated Alexander Torres (6-0-0,4KO) of Rowland Heights stopped Chad Davis (4-10-0, 0KO) of Phoenix, Arizona. Torres decked Davis in the last few seconds of round 1. Davis was not allowed by the ring doctor to answer the bell for round two due to a fractured nose which continued to bleed even as he walked out of the ring towards the dressing rooms. Torres thus won the fight via TKO.
Albonica vs McDavitt.
Javier Albonica (2-1-0,1KO) of Los Angeles who goes with his moniker, ?Deviant Smile? won over a clearly out-classed but very determined Anthony McDavitt (1-3-0-,0KO) of Long Beach. The fight was very entertaining with Albonica using his skills against McDavitt whose orthodox style in throwing his punches proved to be an effective crowd entertainer. McDavitt was rocked several times but his resilience and big heart kept him from going down. The judge?s scores were 40-36-40-35 and 40-35 all for Albonica.
