Makati City ? ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona and Carlos ?Relampago? Jacobo met for the first time Wednesday at the Mactan Cebu International Airport and left on the same flight going to Manila. The atmosphere was civil and subdued. They answered questions from the Manila sportswriters in an afternoon press conference held at Greenbelt 5 in Makati hosted by AKTV IBC 13.

The 21 year old Sonsona, who has been on hiatus for almost twenty months, did not make any predictions but said that once he?ll find his Mexican opponent?s weakness, he?ll finish him.

Jacobo for his part said, ?I trained hard for this bout, I trained for two months. I sparred fifteen rounds every day. This will be a great fight.?

Jacobo (14W-3L-1D, 12 KO?s) is a former Mexican superbantamweight champion and last April 16, won the vacant WBC Fecombox title by 5th round TKO against Ulises Cadena.

?My strongest punch is the right straight,? Jacobo added. The right hand lead is one of the textbook weapons against a left hander like Sonsona.

?My favourite boxer is Juan Manuel Marquez. I also like Julio Cesar Chavez, both the father and son. ? Jacobo also told the sportswriters, ?I also like Pacquiao.?

Sonsona became WBO World superflyweight champion in 2009 when he beat Jose ?Carita? Lopez of Puerto Rico by unanimous decision in Canada. Two months later, he would lose his title when he was overweight for his first defense against Mexico?s Alejandro Hernandez. That bout ended in a draw.

The southpaw Sonsona (14W-1L-1D, 12 KO?s) has not fought since February 27, 2010, when he was stopped in four rounds by Wilfredo Vasquez,Jr in Bayamon, Puerto Rico in a WBO superbantamweight title bout.

?I came back on my own free will.? Sonsona said, ?I love boxing, This will be my profession until I grow old.?

?I have sparred with the boxers at the Omega gym, Weng Haya, Jimrex Jaca, Rey Labao and Jessie Cris Rosales,? Sonsona added, ?I also sparred twice with Dodie Boy Penalosa,Jr. He?s OK, He has power.?

Sonsona will have an advantage in that Jacobo admitted during the press conference that he has not sparred with left handed boxers.

Promoter Sammy Gello-ani said that he could have gotten an easy opponent for Sonsona instead of a tough Mexican but he chose to test his boxer.

?I was worried when I saw Jacobo?s record,? Gello-ani said, ?But I noticed that Marvin was training seriously, so I decided to make it hard for him.?

Veteran sportswriter Ronnie Nathanielz added, ?I called WBC Pres. Jose Sulaiman about Jacobo, he said that he is not a superstar but he is very good.?

The fight will be aired live on AKTV this Saturday at 9 PM. The fight card billed as ?He?s Back With A Vengeance? will be held at the Hoops Dome in Lapulapu City, Cebu.

Also scheduled to appear on this card is former WBO interim lt.flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero who will face tough Roemart ?TI Yamagata? Sentillas.

AKTV?s Vito Lazatin has promised the station?s support for the country?s up and coming fighters. Promoter Gello-ani promised that by next year, SGG Promotions will have a new world boxing champion.
