Cebu City ? Boxing fans in Cebu can watch the highly anticipated world title bout between WBO light flyweight champion Ramon 'El Principe' Garcia Hirales of Mexico and challenger Donnie 'Ahas' Nietes of the ALA Gym live from Bacolod City. ALA Promotions made the announcement Saturday noon in a press conference held at the Cebu Grand Hotel.
?Philippine boxing has moved to a different level,? ALA Promotions Pres. And CEO Michael Aldeguer said, ?We saw that there is such high demand and interest here in Cebu for tickets, fans love to see the fight live, but tickets are selling so fast in Bacolod. So we decided to have the fight aired here on pay-per-view for the fans who want to watch it live.?
The Pinoy Pride 9 title card can be seen at SM Cinema 1 on fight day, October 8, 2011 at 8 PM. Ticket prices are pegged at 200 pesos. For Sky cable subscribers, they can purchase the fight for 300 pesos.
Fight fans can contact SM Cebu at 231-3876 and Sky Cable at 346-4255.
The fight will still be aired on a delayed basis on Sunday Oct. 9 on ABS-CBN.
Nietes (28W-1L-2D, 16 KO's), the former WBO minimumweight champion, will try to win his second world title in front of his hometown fans at the University of St. La Salle Gymnasium. Garcia Hirales (16W-2L-1D, 9 KO's) beat Jesus Geles of Colombia by fourth round knockout for the WBO world title last April. This will be his first title defense. His brother, Raul Garcia, is a former two time world minimumweight champion.
Nietes has successfully defended his world title four times, three in Mexico, before moving up to 108 lbs. Now, ?El Principe? is returning the favor by facing ?Ahas? in the Philippines.
Also in the pay-per-view card is AJ 'Bazooka' Banal (25W-1L-1D, 19 KO's) of Ermita, Cebu, who will face another big test against undefeated Mexican, Mario 'Maca' Briones (20W-0L-1D, 14 KO's). Briones is the reigning WBC Fecombox superbantamweight titlist but it will be Banal's WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight title that will be at stake.
Also set to appear to appear is unbeaten prospect Arthur 'El Matador' Villanueva (17W-0L, 12 KO's) of Bacolod City, who will face East African fighter Shaaban Madilu (12W-6L-3D, 6 KO's). Villanueva is a former Philippine flyweight champion and will be facing his first foreign opponent as a bantamweight.
This pay-per-view card is on a trial basis here in Cebu. If the fans respond favorably, then there will be more to come with possible expansion nationwide. ALA Promotions is also planning to extend overseas and have Pinoy Pride cards in the United States next year.
Pinoy boxing aficionados can also watch the primer of the title fight this Sunday October 2, 3:30 PM at Studio 23.
